Would it be interesting to you to know how many Fluther users are logged into the site at any one time?
I always enjoy seeing at the bottom of Skype’s interface, “xxx people online.” Just a little affirmation that we’re not alone we are – and by how many! Would you like that on Fluther?
This question came up for me because I’m sometimes on here late at night and wondering if anyone else is on. It’d also be cool to know in the middle of the day too. Good idea, or not?

I was just wondering the same thing, I often do when answers slow to a crawl and Fluther goes beddy bye for the night. I think it’d be fun, but then again it would ruin some of the mystery to me like when people were adding timestamps, it gave me the impression they cared more about a timely response then a good one, and I thought it discouraged people from posting on old questions with relevant information. We already know how many are watching and how many are writing, would it help for us to know how many are ignoring?
I’m against it, in favor of the unknown. :)
I’m against it. I like Fluther’s clean look. And if it showed how many were online, next people would want to know who is online, and that would add more gobbledy-gook to the site.
If were small and unobtrusive, sure.
i wondered the same thing.
@AstroChuck: Let’s see.. the question asked an opinion, and I stated my opinion. How does that make me wrong?
If it were small, and did not say who was online, I wouldn’t mind it. I’m often on in the wee hours, too.
I wouldnt want it shown on the front page or anything, i think it would take away from the “clean” feel fluther has. But if it showed if they were online or not when you went in their profile page, that would be cool.
“Logged into the site” is absolutely meaningless. When am I not logged in?
If it could somehow show how many users were actively using the site it would be mildly interesting, but not something I would necessarily care about.
So the overall sense I’m getting is that it’d be nice to see, as long as it didn’t include who was online, and as long as the display wasn’t obtrusive.
