What keeps you up so late?
I don’t mean this metaphorically. I would like to know why you are up so much past midnight? What keeps you from sleeping? Do you even know?
I’m not sure I do. Yet, here I am, night after night, until 1, 2, 3, even 4 in the morning. And I get up at 7 the next day. I never could have done this when I was a teenager. I feel I shouldn’t do it now. But I hang out here, and I can’t go away. I need to have my say, I guess.

Xbox360 and Netflix. Damn the midnight no sleeps.
I usually work the night-shift so I have an excuse :-)
I’m on duty from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m so that’s my bane of existence. But I do have Fluther to keep me company so that is a nice companion to have. :o)
Fluther, Buffy, friends, work that I put off… Damn near everything. Oh and all of nasty friend/relationship shit that happens to me seems to happen after 11 PM.
Thirst, hunger, urinating and phone calls from my hubby.
and pretty soon baby
Fluther, homework that I put off until the last minute, the dog, books.
And even if there isn’t anything keeping me up— sleep is just a waste of time. Not really. I love sleep. I just love it more after sunrise.
i’m playing again Diablo 2 :-|
Like pete, I love my sleep…I just can’t seem to do it at the “proper” time. I never have been able to. I must have been a vampire in a past life!
Night time seems like the best time to get work done, for some reason. All that DAY is out of the way and done with. Often (like right now), I’ll stay up with the excuse of working on papers and projects for school, but I get distracted by Fluther and Youtube and spend a lot of my time online.
This really cute girl is on AIM, I get to see her today.
Friends, Games, Internet, Facebook, YouTube, and Fluther.
My husband and his bloody snoring is what usually keeps me awake. Sometimes the need to hold a pillow over his face is very real!! (joke) That’d be the reason why I’m usually up late, so that I get so tired that I can go off to sleep despite his foghorn.
Sometimes I find that my brain won’t stop, it can be very busy with itself on the odd occasion. Like this week, when my cousin, who was more like an older brother to me, died a couple of days ago, so my mind is full of sadness. Also we don’t know how he died yet, so being worried that he might have suffered is on my mind right now. Will be until the autopsy has been done.
Mmmm. Cheezburger. Yummeh.
NOM NOM NOM
@Tanti- Wow. I hope you are doing all right during this time. Maybe rest is what you need – let your brain take a break from the sadness and worry. The answers will come in time.
@tantigirl Haha, I’m not the only one that uses ‘bloody’ all the time…outside from the obvious…
i sleep in.
making it tuff to sleep at normal times.
someone who really shouldn’t be.
homework, tests, quizzes, a gosh-awful teacher that perpetually makes empty threats that I seem to be the only one who falls for, trying to get in some talking time with my SO who is currently at Emory and in a different time zone, worries about college, relationships, and life in general, and the fact that the air conditioning in the dorms is broken, forcing us to sleep or not sleep in a relatively uncomfortable temperature.
for me I just never feel like I get to do a single thing for me until 10 or so. then I can’t stop.
Damn this Fluther!!!!
Last night I was up late because I woke up at 1:22pm. Tonight it will probably be a mix of the leftover Halloween candy I’m going to consume, the Wild Cherry Pepsi I’m going to drink, and the paper I have to write.
Writing a paper proposal for my sociology class. I mean what. z_z
I used to stay up goofing off, but these days it’s usually because I have an important assignment to finish.
Azul: Mine is for a soc class, too.
shadling21 – Thanks for your words, I appreciate it.
TheBox193 – Oh absolutely, my day isn’t complete until I’ve used bloody at least once!!!
**Tries to think up a way to respond with the word bloody**
Ha ha, wasn’t that a brilliant…..... stop looking at me.
Sex keeps me awake at night.
TheBox193 – that was bloody brilliant!!! ;)
Sometimes, my mind just won’t shut off.
Other times, it’s just nice to be up when most of the (local) world is sleeping.
That’s a good point, I agree, I like the wold quiet. When the world around me is sleeping I can accomplish so much more.
fluther, Floort, TV, and occassionally s•x
Dharma and Greg online. I’ve been watching them whenever I have a spare minute and even when I don’t.
like right now when I need to be writing a paper for psychology of women
is Dharma and Greg on tv at all? I used to love that show!
@cd: well, I’m watching them online in a fashion that I suspect is a little bit less that legal…
cdwccrn – I’ve seen it on cable during the day, I don’t remember which station though. I’ll have a look tomorrow and let you know where it is. You can get it on DVD too, I’ve got the first season.
I don’t get up when I’m supposed to. And when I finally retire or (more likely) get laid off, I’ll stay up even later.
Fluther, the internet in general, conversation, not being tired, purely just having free time to waste.
Fluther of course!
But then there’s stuff like work, class work I procrastinated from last night, sometimes I get a book I cant put down, TV (I’m a Hulu fan), and just random stuff I find myself doing at 2 in the morning and then thinking ‘what the hell am I doing??’ then fall asleep
Oh, God.
Recently I took a break from Fluther, and while I stayed up late, I got a decent amount of sleep. Now that I’m back on the site, I’m up past three every night. Talk about an unhealthy obsession. Maybe I should stay away for a while (at least till exams are done with).
@shadling21 <cries> I was so happy to see you again! Do what you must for school, but come back soon, please.
…my answer has changed.
Warcraft. I think I need an intervention.
I require a lot of light – and to not be tired – to read. I can’t even watch tv or movies very late. Or surf. So only sex would keep me up late. But 3–4 a.m. – I can do anything.
So if you see me online at these hours (it’s 4 a.m. now) – I’m up early as usual – not staying up late – like the majority here.
