Is Apple really not taking powerful action on climate change?

Asked by Trustinglife (6668points) November 10th, 2008

I checked out Climate Counts’ very cool website today and was shocked to see Apple rated very poorly in their Electronics section. When I say poorly, I mean they were dead last among electronics companies.

I’m a PC user, but love my iPhone and have been considering a Mac for my next computer. Apple went down in my book when I saw this.

Did you know this? Anyone want to defend Apple? What DOES Apple do toward climate change?

Apple is far from being a truly environmentally friendly company. They’re making baby-steps though, as of recently, they completely eliminated mercury, arsenic, BFR and PVC from their product lines. They’re moving in the right direction, but they need to hurry the fuck up.

A lot of their bad behaviour is due to the manufacture processes they opt for. Step by step, they are finding ways to maintain the build quality they prefer, but without damaging the environment in the process. Another thing they should focus on is ecologically powering their Cupertino campus; especially with a second one on the way.

As much as Apple want to come off as a forward thinking business, being an environmentally friendly organisation is on the back-burner for them. They need to focus a lot more attention on their eco-status.

Hope this helps.
