Rachel Maddow’s got me a little concerned…http://jezebel.com/5083096/sarah-palin-is-not-gonna-be-a-dictator-and-all-this-about-alaska-senate-seat
My apologies if this has come up before in another thread.

I’m having trouble with the link you provided. Can you re-post it?
Alaska state law prevents that from happening.
People would need to vote for her, so she can’t put herself there.
link and link
Looks like she’d only be an interim Senator until special elections could be held (if she appointed herself). But I don’t know anything about Alaska law, so perhaps not.
@Astro Chuck Actually that isn’t exactly true..
(Note to collective: I have posted the following previously, it is applicable here as well however…)
Apparently 1 of 3 things can happen:
1. Palin can appoint herself and then must run in special election w/in 90 days.
2. Palin can resign and then her (now) Lt Gov would become governor and could appoint Palin to the Senate. She must then run in a special election w/in 90 days.
3. Palin can call a special election and run for Senate
Bottom line, if she gets in and stays in office it will be because the people of AK have put her there via election.
See actual law in this

RNC has asked her to appoint an interim senator, and then run herself in the special election.
You definitely get points for reading Jezebel. But she would have to win a special election.
She said in response to the question that she was not interested in running for the seat.
“Nope”
100% in whatever way she thinks she can manipulate the system to make it happen.
~ That whole Senate thing worked out for Katherine Harris too.
I checked out ljs’s links, and I thought I’d add the brief summary to the discussion. There’s still a Senate race to count votes on, before any of this is relevant. From the Rachel Maddow link:
Here’s a brief recap: incumbent GOP Senator Ted Stevens, who’s been convicted of 7 felonies, is ahead by 3,000 votes though there are 90,000 votes yet to be counted. If Stevens were to win, he would be forced to step down, and many speculate that Palin would either appoint herself to the vacant seat or run in a special election. So what does the Governor have to say about this hullabaloo? “The Alaskan voters have spoken and me not being a dictator won’t be tellin’ anybody what to do. A Governor, especially one that’s not gonna be a dictator and all this, doesn’t have control over that.”
