What's your unusual Thanksgiving food?

Turkey, gravy, blah blah blah…what does your family eat on turkey day that’s unique? We eat sauerkraut(sp?)...don’t ask me why – but it’s good! :)

I don’t know if it is weird or not but we eat this marshmallow, pudding, cool whip concoction called “Pistachio Pudding”.
Anyone else eat that?
@jsc: You’re killing me! My Mom used to make that and I loved it (even though cool whip is truly frightening)! It’s so good late that night straight from the ‘fridge! The southern side of my family is also famous for molding very odd things make with jello.

We used to eat the customary turkey all the time but for the last couple of years, we’ve taken to eating Prime Rib as the meat of choice for our Thanksgiving feasts. I know it may not be unusual but it sure is a nice substitute for turkey.

I enjoyed Tofurkey one Thanksgiving with my vegetarian friends.
Sweet potato, pineapple, sausage and marmalade casserole. Weird, but omgdelicious.
A few years back we had both a vegan lobster and vegan prawns as part of our meal. They were both great!
@jsc My aunt makes that pudding! Although I am not a huge fan.
Ok so Thanksgiving is kind of strange for me since I am vegetarian. So I eat everything but the turkey. Last year I had boca veggy burgers. Haha.

wow… how is that even possible?
I’ve always thought that there was a blood feud going on between cake and pie… Cake staked out all the birthdays and office parties, while pie got thanksgiving and the religious holidays. As long as neither one went trespassing on each other’s celebrations, things went by pretty much without a hitch.
BUT WHAT NOW?!
We replace the turkey with duck.
I also make the cranberry sauce. From scratch. (It’s so ridiculously easy and sooo good.)
@empress: I also make my own which, you’re right, is so easy! I add some chambord when cooking the berries and then garnish with orange rinds.
We always eat sauerkraut as well. I find I miss it when it’s not there….
Might be a Pennsylvania thing?
@ccrash, probably a northern thing as all my fam is from NY & Penn! It’s so yummy, but I only “need” it once a year!

We have a hotpot!
A boiling pot of water in the middle of the table, and we just keeping adding food in it! So every time we eat it, the taste is a bit different, but very good!
Unusual side dish around here (California), but traditional where I come from (New England): butternut squash, boiled (a little salt in the water), mashed, and seasoned with a just-right addition of brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, served with a pat of butter melting over it. Leftovers freeze beautifully and nuke up well. I’ll be cooking mine this afternoon, day before Thanksgiving, to save stovetop space tomorrow and will just reheat at the last minute.
