Do you speak up when you need to defend yourself? Are you brave to speak what is in your mind? If so, what encourage you to do so?

I have foot in mouth disease. I speak to much. Only exception is maybe with family. I have this “Peace at all cost” mentality and I don’t like to rock the boat. I need to learn to take a stand more there maybe, but I always ask, “Is this worth the conflict?”
I have no filter. Very rarely at best…like if I see a clergyman.
No. I used to. Everyone hates conservatives though so I don’t anymore.
When I need to yes then the person finds out what I really think but most of the time I am as quiet as a church mouse.
I operate on the squeaky wheel premise, yet I usually only squeak when necessary. I don’t feel the need to force my opinions. My parents taught me early on that most people aren’t mind readers so it’s best not to assume someone knows what you’re thinking.
As my friends said while teasing me yesterday “we always know when you are in the same building, because we can hear your voice echoing”. i think perhaps i exercise my right a tad too much
I speak all the time and I pretty much always say exactly what I am thinking

Like what if you see a clergyman?
The real conservatives don’t bother me, it’s all those exploitatives that call themselves conservatives I can’t stand!
If I really spoke my mind more than I do already, I’m afraid I’d end up in Guantonimo or some such place!
I usually do speak my mind, though I try not to be confrontational about it. If it’s called for though, I certainly do defend myself vigorously.
@amurican: I was raised Catholic, and while I am not a ‘believer’ any longer I still have a built in ‘Shut The Fuck Up With The Expletives’ filter button when I see clergy. That’s all.
Influences in architecture, art, wine, food, language ,mannerisms are all part of this continueum. The good is good and the fuck’n bullshit that goes with it is the proverbial stone in our shoe we all have to struggle with. Tired of going against the grain many give in. Is it any wonder lasting change happens very slowly. Determination is our only ally.
