When is the best time to have a 3D/4D ultrasound?

Asked by 2late2be (2292points) November 13th, 2008

I’m in my 22th week, and I’d like to know my baby’s gender and get to see him/her, the doctor said today that verything looks really good and that i can have it because im not in any medical risk…

Right now would be a good time or you could wait another couple of weeks so your baby could grow more. Why didn’t your doctor already tell you what the sex is? Or do you just want to make sure?

I would never have one unless it is medically imperative. Who knows what the long term effects might be? You can take pictures when the child is born, and know the sex then as well.

2late2be; Don’t take any unnecessary chances with that tiny pre-baby. Skfinkel has done lots of research; there is a dramatic increase in the numbers of toddlers being diagnosed along part of the autism spectrum. No one knows why. MDs do not know everything.

Waiting and being surprised used to be the way we all did it. Why not continue that precedent?

I agree with skfinkel and gailcalled. I wouldn’t get any unnecessary ultrasound treatments. I’m not sure there is any evidence connecting ultrasounds to autism, but, I wouldn’t take chances. If you are going to have an ultrasound for purely superficial reasons, ask them to avoid scanning your baby’s brain as much as possible. To see sex, they only need to look between the legs. Though, if you are in fact having a boy, scanning between the legs might actually be a look at his brain… :-)
