Where now with my Genealogy?

Hi there! I'm English and trying to discover who my great Granddad was... However i only have a brief name and the fact that he was in the military (as well as the name of his Kids etc.) I'm wondering where to go next?

They both have scores of hyperlinks. I found pictures of my great-great-grandpa's tavern in the shtetl of Serei, Lithuania, but my grandfather (who immigrated to the US in 1888 had the wit to write his autobiog. w. dates, names, etc. Doing the research is really fun. Good luck.
