Where should I go with my 2 1/2 grandchild in San Francisco?

Asked by skfinkel (13537points) November 13th, 2008

Is there a special children’s museum or something else. I was also thinking of an aquarium.

The Exploratorium in the Presideo located at the Palace of Fine Arts has all kinds of science related exhibts that entertain child and adults alike. Though, not sure how much a 2 1/2 year old is able to soak in due to my lack of experience with children.

Lots to look at and plenty to touch. That should be helpful.

You could go on a tour of the Jelly Belly factory.
Bit of a detour out to Fairfield though.

…..oh, I forgot to say, don’t miss the fish round. It is a great experience for all ages!

I suggest the brand spanking new California Academy of Sciences. It has been my experience that the exploratorium is more appropriate for older kids (I have a 2 year old, FYI). Other options in the city proper are the brand new Koret Children’s Playground (you won’t be disappointed) or the Randall Museum. However, the best place for a kid that age in the area is the Bay Area Discovery Museum just across the Golden Gate bridge. We take our son there almost every weekend.

See if you can get into Pixar. It’s across the bay in Emeryville, but an awesome time. I dunno how their tours work…

And I second the Jelly Belly Factory. And don’t forget Golden Gate Park!
