Has anyone has a weakly positive ANA test?

Asked by missjena (918points) November 14th, 2008 from iPhone

I am 23 years old with palpable lymph nodes my biopsy was negative so they tested me for autoimmune diseases. My ana was 1:160. Has anyone had this and didn’t have lupus or an autoimmune disease? Would a sinus infection cause this ANA test to be falsely positive?

There ARE ways to get false positives on this Serology test but not simply having a sinus infection. Talk to your doctor. Be sure to tell him the medications you take (prescription AND over-the-counter). See what HE says. He can always REPEAT it.

my dr said it must be a false positive all the other blood work was perfect plus I have no symptoms. I guess from researching online some people can be weakly positive and not have any autoimmune or illness going on
