What do you put in your coffee?

Asked by Elumas (3170points) November 15th, 2008

Cream, sugar, more coffee? I personally take it black.

I like my coffee like i like my presidents. If I am drinking just regular coffee then it’s black for me.
However, I usually just let the good people at Starbucks make me a nonfat peppermint mocha, extra hot, no whip. Now that’s a MAN’S drink!

By the way, they just opened a Starbucks in my pants.

Wow, AC. Wow.

I drink it with half and half or black (if cream isn’t accessible). I think I just like the colour and texture that the cream provides.

If I can, I get steamed milk in there instead, with a bit of foam on top. Mmmmm cafe au lait is yummeh!

Milk and sugar. ;)

@ac: I think you’ll find yourself mistaken, that is a little girly man’s drink.

I don’t drink coffee very often. When I do I usually put a lot of cream in it, with a little sugar.

I don’t like coffee very much. I just use it. I mix up some instant with a little Sweet’n’Low and some diet vanilla shake, not out of preferece but as a way of getting it down. Once I’ve got started in the morning, any desire to repeat this experience is over until next day.

I usually have flat white with two sugars or cappucino two sugars. Though if I know it’s really good coffee (like from the cafe round the corner from my school) I only need one sugar.

@Jeruba: maybe you should try strong tea as an alternative? Black teas are delicious and have caffeine as well. Earl Grey and Darjeeling are wonderful. It has a bit less, which is better for you, and you probably won’t notice the difference after a couple days. Not to mention the variety of flavors and the ridiculously simple preparation.

* Coffee: 100 mg
* Black Tea: 40 to 50 mg
* Oolong Tea: 25 to 35 mg
* Green Tea: 20 to 30 mg
* Decaffeinated Black Tea: 4 mg
* Decaffeinated Green Tea: 4 mg

Apples are better for waking you up in the morning than coffee, apparently.

Tea. Blechhh!

The classic standard is perfect for me: cream and sugar.

Though I love the smell of coffee beans, I’m not a fan of coffee. On the very rare occasions that I drink it, I have to drown it in milk and shovel in the sugar. In general, the only caffeine I ever get is from chocolate!

Jeruba's avatar

@asmonet: Thanks, but the stuff I am trying to get down is the diet shake, and I absolutely would not foul tea with it. Coffee is such a don’t-care beverage that I don’t mind. I enjoy tea, and that is my beverage of choice in the evening.

A spoonful of honey and a glug of whole milk. Unwhole milk doesn’t change the color enough.

Another great wakeup is a spoonful of vinegar followed by a half spoonful of honey. Ow!

On the occasional Sunday morning, Baileys.
@AstroChuck Have you had your Grand Opening yet?

milk and sugar. I drink coffee because of the caffein to keep me awake. Otherwise, coffee just taste horribly aweful to me. MILO for the win.

a little fat free french vanilla creamer in a huge mug of freshly brewed mocha java and I’m on my way!

cookieman's avatar

Half n’ half and one Sweet & Low. Extra light.
Used to be 2 sugars before I was diabetic.

@SoapChef: A shot of Baileys is great in the cold weather.

@cprevite & Soap: I believe Baileys to be the elixir of angels under certain circumstances!

I only drink decaf. I take cream and sugar (usually two sugar packets). I think that here in Boston, you can get coffee with cream and sugar by asking for a “regulah.” (At least at Dunkin Donuts.)

cookieman's avatar

@answerjill: As a fellow Bostonian, I will concur. A “Lahge Regulah” will get you a large coffee with cream and sugar at “Dunkies” or “DD”. Get yourself an “Old Fashioned” donut and you are ready to dunk.

Milk and sugar.

I drink coffee for the coffee – none of the other bits and bobs. I just want coffee! Funny thing is, around here (Ireland), if you ask for a “coffee”, you usually get milk/cream and optional sugar – you actually have to specify “black coffee” to just get the coffee…..madness!!

Cream, Sugar, & carmel syrup. Yum! I also drink it iced about 98% of the time. Yes, even in the winter.

shadling21's avatar

@Adina – Sounds yummy! I just started a love affair with iced lattes. I own a stovetop espresso maker, but I have nothing to steam milk with. I could drink the coffee straight, but frequently I add ice and milk and make an iced latte. I’m thinking this will become regular practice, even though winter is just beginning.

charliecompany34's avatar

i drink it black. it is the sure way to taste the flavor of the coffee. weak coffee is so not enjoyable and overbrewed coffee is like drinking tire rubber.

Never had a sip in my life and too late to start now and here I am in the home of Starbucks!!!

wondersteph's avatar

during the fall/winter, i use peppermint mocha creamer & a little bit of sugar.

dynamicduo's avatar

Cream and sugar, a good bit of both. It dilutes the “true flavour” of the bean, but I don’t really care, my palette is not really refined enough to distinguish the finer differences from bean to bean.

My partner takes a tiny bit of sugar, and milk for the sole purpose of cooling it down, they’re one of those super flavour tasters for sure.

shadling21's avatar

@steph- I love peppermint mocha. Kinda surprised me, cuz I don’t like mint! What brand of creamer do you use?

@dynamicduo – You know, as long as you enjoy the drink, you can add as much sugar and cream as you want! I’ve come across a few coffee snobs who insist that the only proper way to drink coffee is to have it black… I say, go for it!

wondersteph's avatar

I think it’s just Coffeemate stuff you can get in the milk section. I’m pretty sure that’s the brand…
It’s AMAZING! I’m about to have to stock up, since it’ll be gone come Januaryish.

Black. Sometimes a little cream.
