Opinion based on personal experience....Las Vegas Hotels?

Asked by dalepetrie (18029points) November 16th, 2008

We’re thinking of going to Vegas in February and trying to decide amongst 5 hotels right in the center of the strip. Trip packages for 3 nights vary by only $125 from the cheapest to the most expensive, just wondering what you would do. The five hotels are Treasure Island, Harrah’s, The Mirage, Caesar’s Palace and the Venetian. From what I can find it seems like the Venetian might be the nicest, but I personally have never stayed in any of these hotels, so if you have an experienced opinion, I’d welcome it!

A friend of mine stayed at The Venetian about a year ago I think and was very happy. I can’t speak from personal experience though, sorry. :)

Venetian = nicest of that group, but also the most expensive.

I’ve stayed at The Venetian three times, The Mirage, and Caesar’s.

The Venetian is the nicest; the rooms are huge, the bed is comfy, and the bathroom is spacious and well-appointed. The resort is huge so things like room service may be unwieldy (don’t call at midnight on Saturday and want dessert in half an hour), but I don’t recall anything more than minor inconveniences with service during my stays. I’ve stayed at other places in Vegas besides the ones you’ve listed (Bellagio, Wynn, “thehotel” at Mandalay Bay) and think the Venetian is probably my favorite.

Caesar’s was pleasant and the bed was fine, but it was just an upscale hotel room—not really worth a premium price. The room at the Mirage was probably a little smaller than the one at Caesar’s, but pretty equivalent otherwise if I recall correctly.

TI is going to be a step down from the Mirage as they’re owned by the same company and they have a sort of pecking order, but it’s not going to be a big step. Harrah’s is an older hotel; I have no personal experience but people tell me it’s fine as far as a place to sleep and shower goes, but it’s not memorable.

I’m willing to spend a few extra bucks on a room because if I wanted to stay someplace uninteresting, I’d stay at home. Spend your money on what’s important to you for the trip—if it’s food, shows, or gambling, stay someplace cheaper and spend the cash on what you’ll really enjoy. Have a good trip.

Looks like it’s Venetian, Dale.

My 2 cents: I stayed at the Sahara for a week in September. The rates were, and are now, incredibly cheap ($45). It isn’t the most luxurious, but the casino is nice, the food is very good and the pool is way above average. It is also the beginning point for the mono-rail and you can get every where you want to go quickly and cheaply. Lastly, there is the history. The Beatles even stayed there and there are pictures and plaques commemorating all sorts of things. Have fun!

Don’t stay at the Luxor, not that you asked. It’s too weird.

I stayed at the Flamingo/Hiltion.

I know a lot about las vegas. One place I strongly do not reccomend is Circus Circus…its too tacky!

Hum, the Venetian and the Mirage are definitely very nice.

However, be “wary” of “bargains” from the MGM Group hotels (Mirage), if they’re too “value” you might end up in the basement with no view.

The Treasure Island is very nice, although the rooms start to “show” that it is one of the older resorts around here, but it smells really nice!

Harrah’s is a DEFINITE NO-NO, that’s sleazy old Vegas-style, where the rooms smell bad and what not, and is generally very tacky.

Based on your selection I’d probably go with the Venetian, their new addition, the Palazzo next door is very nice too.

If you need a guide, give me a holler, I live 10 minutes away ;)

Cool, thanks TaoSan…I’ll be booking probably the early part of January, I’ll give you a holller if I have any questions then.

Keep tabs on deals. Right now many places are offering good rates. Check the web for where the deals are.
