Who are your all time favorite back-up singers?
My favorite of all time is Merry Clayton on The Stones Gimmie Shelter and Marcy Levy on Clapton’s The Core. Who are your favorites?

Axl Rose on I Will Not Go Quietly by Don Henley and Mick Jagger on You’re So Vain by Carly Simon.
My favorite back-up vocals ever are from Respect by The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. Sock it to me, sock it to me, sock it to me… you just can’t beat that!
You are right on with Respect. Back up vocals sooo can make a song.
DAWN (as in “Tony Orlando and Dawn”)
Damn dem Pips! They were top shelf!
Dawn? Oh my, Mr. M. Telma Hopkins could sing : 0
I remember when The Pips were the musical guests on The Flip Wilson Show. And it was just The Pips, no Gladys Knight.
The performed Midnight Train To Georgia without a lead singer for the entire song. They went through the dance steps and everything. It was slap nuts funny!
I saw Annie Lenox
Annie Lenox and the Eurythmics, backup singers were amazing in concert along about 1983. They came marching on stage with giant cone shaped breasts (before Madonna did it). Annie would shout “And the black girls sing” and they did a killer job of it.
Clare Torry, hands down.
even though i guess it wasn’t technically “back up”
Who were those three guys who backed up Paul McCartney in the early days?
Ringo and somebody and somebody?
It’s been such a long time..
SRM
Okay, I’m embarrassed. I don’t know what happened up there.
By the way, I saw Annie Lennox (two n’s and all)! :0)
