I need help making a pun!

Asked by sjg102379 (1250points) November 17th, 2008

My wordplay skills are somewhat limited, and I need a clever headline for the top of a menu at a dinner party. It should be a play on the word “Eve” (the name, not the noun).

I walked out on Chritmas Eve and I hope you will forgive me.

A play on the word Eve… Well if it was a menu item, I would go for a play on the bible-apple-snake-knowledge thing. But since it seems to be a menu title itself, how about something using the word Evening. Maybe “A Delightful Evening”, with Eve bolded.

Apple thieves?

I mean, that’s a bit of wit, dunno if it’ll fit. Some fun for your pun, hun.

“Eve” means evening (in English, not in Hebrew). Using the noun as the alternate meaning is how you would craft a play on the name.

A Menu for This Eve
The Eve of a Great Occasion
For This Pleasant Eve
This Eve Is Special

Those aren’t great, but you could play around with them some more and come up with a phrase in which “Eve” works in both senses, both as a meaningful noun phrase and as a reference to the person. It’s the working in both senses that makes it a pun.

Not sure I can top Jeruba, so I’m just going to hand a GA that way.

This may be a bit too reachy, but how about, “The woman tempted me, and I did eat”? Adam’s answer to G*d in the Garden of Eden when he was busted for eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

a play on “you’re so naive”

You’re So Good Night Eve: A dinner party with unknown experiences!
