Isn't the uvula an odd little body part?

Asked by La_chica_gomela (12594points) November 17th, 2008

It just looks strange and I basically forget it exists most of the time.

Did you know it could be “cleft” or split looking?

Am I the only person who thinks at least one of those pictures looks like teeny tiny balls?

Yeah, that bifid uvula picture does resemble a hanging scrotum.

I love reading about interesting body parts, including vestigal organs, such as our appendix and tailbone. It’s always interesting to see what’s been left behind throughout our and other species’ evolutions.

No worse than the epiglottis.

Ew, all I can say is that the tonsils in that picture look gross and I’m glad I don’t have ‘em anymore.

asmonet, i had to wikipedia it, but after looking at the picture YES, the epiglottis looks pretty sexual. for me it doesn’t have the same cache as the uvula though, because i’ve never really seen my own epiglottis. and on wikipedia, those were just drawings. there’s nothing like a photograph.

And then there is the Xiphoid process.

I remember both Tweety Bird in Sylvester’s throat and Jerry Mouse in Tom Cats throat. Tweety was drilling Sylesters uvula like Oscar De Le Hoya on a speedbag. Jerry Mouse clobbered Tom Cat’s uvula like Piston Honda waylaying Little Mac in round three of Mike Tyson’s Punchout on N.E.S.
