Have you seen Rachel Getting Married? (warning:spoiler)

Asked by bythebay (8214points) November 17th, 2008

If so, would you – could you explain the choice of the Neil Young song that Sidney sang to Rachel at the wedding? It was very charming that he sang, I just didn’t “get” the song choice as the words didn’t seem to be particularly descriptive of her. What was the significance of the indian themed wedding? Finally, do you think that Kyms choice to return to rehab was a wise one, having already been there for 9 months? These, my friends, are the things that I ponder. Great movie, very insightful and saved me $150. for an hour of therapy!

What an endorsement! I wish I had seen this movie to muse on these questions also…

How did it save you from an hour of therapy??

I wondered that too, about Sidney’s song. I figured it was an injoke between them because she smiled as if she got it. I loved hearing him sing it. Who is that guy?
Lovely.
Yes, Kym was fucked up. She had to be back in the can.
The Indian themed wedding hmm seemed to me to be multicultural and I think that
had to do with Sidney’s being a respected musician with friends-and-lives from all over the place.
Didn’t you like Rachel and Kym’s father? Didn’t you like their stepmother? Let’s spoil this completely as long as we’re at it.

Ha! Kym was beyond fucked up; she was painful to watch. Didn’t you want to reach across the table and push her back in her seat?? You’re probably right about the multi-cultural thing, that was a mixture of people like I’ve never seen. I loved their Dad, so well meaning, genuine and overflowing with love…and the step-mom was exactly the polar opposite of their real Mom…cold much????

@shand: As for the saved hour of therapy it will serve to remind me that my children are unique and will fail as well as succeed; I must love them equally but not expect them to be perfect. Also, it will remind me that carrying someone elses burdens is not always a help to them, or myself.
