I am guilty of assuming others are male unless the content of their post indicates otherwise. But, perhaps that is some sort of personal bias I have, I don’t know. What about you… When you read fluther name that is not gender specific, do you make an assumption as to their gender

i believe it is better to ask then to be sorry.
I agree with rossi_bear, but I tend to make assumptions anyway. Here goes:
basp: man
rossi: woman
syz: woman
How’d I do?
I guessed wrong with Nimis, but for the most part think I have the gender thing down.
But on the whole, I usually just reserve judgment until I see more posts.

Don’t know about the others, but I am female.
you are right with me tonedef. good job.:)
Never assume. If I need to know if regards to an answer, then I will ask.
(female, here!)
I don’t really care about the person’s sex. For the most part it has nothing to do with the answers they provide. I highly doubt anyone would assume this username is a girl’s (actually it’s a totally new username for me, wanted to get away from my other ones). Yet it is. You know what they say about assuming… makes an ass out of you and some guy named Ming ;)

I don’t care about anyone’s sex either, but there are times when it helps to know the gender of the respondent.
You could always try checking here
I usually don’t form any opinion until I’ve read many posts by the user. Even then, I have been wrong. (Female, here).
@basp, I agree wholeheartedly. In instances like that I will look at the person’s profile to see if they chose to disclose the information. If not, I simply give my opinion or answer as it relates to me. For future reference, I would appreciate you using my full username. I hate nicknames. Thanks.
sorry about the nickname, dynamicduo. I’ll do better next time:)
@tonedef: Really, I thought syz was a dude? I dunno I think on the writing style I sort of deduce gender. I did it to one user because she had a very linear concise manner of speaking, that generally means male. But really, she’s just got a style all her own I guess.
I assume that everyone is a male even if they pretend to be a female. This is the internet after all.
If neither username or post indicates a gender, I usually find myself wondering if it’s a he or a she – not that it matters a great deal unless I intend to refer to them in 3rd person – it’s really just curiosity about the people behind the posts. Usually it becomes apparent after reading a few of the person’s posts though. Few, but some, have surprised me.
@asmonet – you had me wondering for a second there because I always thought syz was a woman. proof
@fireside: I stand corrected. You win at internets!
