Has the "election curtain" fallen? Can Obama let his hair down?

I’m asking because last night, Obama completely revamped the civil rights section of his Change.gov site, and added an exhaustive list of rights for LGBT americans that he barely even touched on during the election. Amendment 2/ Prop 8 has (dubiously) shown that these may be unpopular causes, which might be why he waited until after the election to reveal them.
What other positions do you think the president-elect will unveil before now and the inauguration? Do they worry you? Are you excited?
I, frankly, am ecstatic.

To be honest, I’m constantly concerned that he’ll be assassinated. He’s just so awesome, it can’t last, says the emotional side of my brain.
I am hoping to see decriminalization of marijuana and an overall reduction on the War on Drugs. I read an article yesterday about how much money the US government could make by taxing weed, and quite a few states made decisions about marijuana on the ballot in favour of making it the lowest priority for police. Here in Canada it’s such a non-issue even though its technically illegal. Many many adults (and teens of course) smoke some weed now and then. My only wish is that I could buy all types of strains from a marijuana corner store and GIVE my government tax money… never thought I’d ever say that, but there it is :)
Taxing marijuana and making hemp legal sure would be a good way to get us out of this economic crisis.
He can relax a little and be somewhat more open with his positions, because the media is not giving him the same degree of scrutiny. But the truth is that a politician is perpetually campaigning and he still has to be careful.
My favorite part of the change.gov site is this disclaimer on the job application (emphasis mine):
“The Obama-Biden Transition Project does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or any other basis of discrimination prohibited by law.”
Not only would marijuana provide tax income, but think of the job creation as X% of Californians start up growing and selling businesses. Of course they have to purchase equipment and supplies, spending money and helping the economy.
I was so happy to see the changes to the page. It really seems like the progress the Obama administration and you Americans make during the next eight hopefully years will not only undo some of the pain caused by the Bush administration but will push America, and Canada, and the world, towards the future.
YAY! Baby steps, people, baby steps. I don’t think Obama is going to be able to change all of our backwardness in one or even two terms. I am hopeful that what he will do is usher in an era of compassion, intelligence and realism in which all those things can be changed. If not by him, then by those who come after him.
@augustlan: Yeah right! That’ll happen as soon as there’s a black man in of fice…
…
oh!
did someone say free reefer?
@Mizuki – Welcome to Canada, pass to your left ;)
Free samples would probably exist. Competition and the free market brings out the best in a lot of businesses.
@lapilofu—That’s my favorite part, too! :D :D :D
Or just go to Burning Man.
Interesting issue with regard to legal growing in the states that currently grow most of our food. Look at Afghanistan and Thailand. Poppies make more money than strawberries.
Oh wait, that’s because heroin is illegal. I take it back.
