How much lurve can you give someone before it no longer adds to their total score?

I have asked mods, but never got a definitive answer. Does anyone know?

Lets find out. I’ll be the test subject.

(Hopefully this goes better than the last test I took part of, I couldn’t get an erection for a month!)

peedub's avatar

I wanna say around 200 but I could be wrong. It might have something to do with how quickly they give it to you as well.

arnbev959's avatar

Not enough.

SoapChef's avatar

@ peedub I also wondered if it was x amount within x amount of time or forever.

peedub's avatar

I think it’s forevers homes.

jlm11f's avatar

i always thought it was 125 – 150. though i am probably wrong. so don’t quote me on it.

edit – i agree w/ pete too.

peedub's avatar

I wouldn’t contest that. It’s certainly a low figure.

El_Cadejo's avatar

i agree with pete, not nearly enough.

Wait a minute…PnL doesn’t know the definite answer?
My illusion of their omnipotence is shattered!

jrpowell's avatar

@PnL: I think it is actually lower. I think andrew said 50 once. But they could have raised it since then.

arnbev959's avatar

I’ve heard rumors that the fluther gods were thinking of ‘refilling’ your available lurve to certain users after a certain amount of time, but as far as I know nothing like that has been implemented as of yet.

It would be very nice though.

jlm11f's avatar

Nimis – oh dear, am i supposed to know?

JP – I really have no idea.

Nimis's avatar

Don’t you know EVERYTHING?
Hee. Just kidding.
Guess not?

El_Cadejo's avatar

@pete TIME CAP(SULE!!)

jlm11f's avatar

:(. great. i feel incompetent now Nimis. thankssssssss for that. self esteem crashes

@SoapChef – the mods never gave you a definitive answer, because we don’t know! (as you can see from my previous answers now). only ben/andrew know, i think.

shilolo's avatar

I think I heard 250…

I love my demigod, PnL.
Being Zeus is over-rated.

uber has a nice answer in this question.

PnL is indeed a goddess.

I can’t wait for the Girls of Fluther calendar…

AstroChuck's avatar

I’ll order ten.

jlm11f's avatar

soapchef, i am terribly sorry for your thread going so off-topic. i blame shilolo.

nimis – aww thank you, it’s back up now. petey – <4 uberbatman – LEDs != electronic

SoapChef – you could try using the contact form to find out the answer. Perhaps it’s being kept secret so people don’t keep creating new accounts to give lurve once the old account is maxed?

El_Cadejo's avatar

LEDs maybe not, but a 120v AC line and a light bulb do :P

arnbev959's avatar

Psst, hey SoapChef. If the fluther gods are keeping the exact number a secret, and they tell you, let me know. I can keep a secret.

AstroChuck's avatar

Yeah, me too.

AstroChuck's avatar

Tell us all. We can all keep a secret, right everyone?

SoapChef's avatar

As long as you guys promise not to tell anybody.

augustlan's avatar

You know, it doesn’t bother me if someone can’t give me any more lurve, but it bugs the crap out of me when I can’t give someone any more!

We promise, Soap!

Nimis's avatar

As much as some answers have me continually pressing the GA button in hopes of it counting more, it can also be quite liberating to know that they don’t register. Makes me feel free to give little lurve hugs here and there.

richardhenry's avatar

@PnL: You would hope Ben and Andrew know. They made the f’ing thing. :)

jrpowell's avatar

sferik probably knows too.

ben's avatar

Okay, everyone wants a definitive answer so here it is:

There is currently a vote maximum from user to user that caps out just shy of 100 points (it was recently raised—it’s based on votes, not points). In the future, we may make this more of a rolling maximum, so it wears off over time (but it’s not high on our todo list).

The idea is to ensure the integrity of the lurve system so two people can’t easily inflate their lurve.

Hope that settles things.

SoapChef's avatar

Thank you Ben. Uh, I’m not sure if you knew this or not, but it was supposed to be a secret.

jlm11f's avatar

i said 125, so i was the closest. does victory dance (this was a contest right??) now, what prize do I get?

Nimis's avatar

You get placebo lurve.

Trustinglife's avatar

Thanks for the answer, Ben.

Personally, 100 feels a bit low to me. That’s only 20 GA’s. Heck, if it’s a good discussion back and forth, sometimes I’ll give several GA’s to someone on just one question! It’s disappointing to me that the limit is so low. That’s my .02.

If you give me a GA, make sure you mean it! I only can receive 20 from you!!~

asmonet's avatar

Nimis only gets pseudo lurve nowadays, at least from me. It is so sad.

AstroChuck's avatar

Thanks, Ben. But I’m finding it really hard keeping this secret.

richardhenry's avatar

@TrustingLife: I disagree. People still get the appreciation by having their work “great answered”, but in order for your score to rise, everyone has to appreciate you, not just the same people.

Seems fair.

MissAnthrope's avatar

Yeah.. I understand the whole multi-account lurve abuse potential, but I really don’t like this cap thing. I mean, 100 points? As Trustinglife said, that’s only 20 GA’s! This is not fair to those of us that Fluther a lot. :( I mean, 100 points a month, maybe. But if someone asks a really good question or gives a brilliant answer, I want them to really get the lurve!

Boo on fake lurve!

richardhenry's avatar

@AlenaD: The score cheating isn’t really the main reason; we have a mod dashboard and “dirt pages” so we can quickly notice that if it happens, and deduct lurve or ban users appropriately.

I wouldn’t say it’s fake lurve, people still get the “yay, a gold star!” feeling, but everyone has to want to give you gold stars for it to really matter, rather than just your friends.

Maybe a monthly cycle wouldn’t be a bad idea, but that’s up to Ben and Andrew to decide. They have the statistics in front of them needed to figure out what’s working.

MissAnthrope's avatar

Yeah, I know. I do think perhaps a monthly cycle should be in order. I understand the idea behind spreading the lurve beyond your friends, however, it just seems kind of flawed to me. (and I realize you have no control over it, I’m just talking :P)

I hope this makes sense, cause it makes sense in my head. For one, Fluther has a certain core number of frequent users, so I would imagine a good portion of lurve given out, not to mention questions/answers posted, belong to this core. So a lot of lurve is given out to the same people by the same people, because they are active.. How do you get lurve from other people, if they rarely log on, participate in discussions, etc.?

Not actually applying the points is, in effect, sort of taking something away from those that are active and freely sharing lurve, which blows my mind a little because those are things I think should be encouraged here. Personally, I think we should reward the active users (+1 daily lurve aside). I Fluther in part because I’m a point junkie. Now that I know I’m not getting some of my points, I feel less excited about Fluther.

AstroChuck's avatar

I figure the fluther gods know what’s best and if they decide to tweak things then I’ll hang around, and if they decide to leave things as they are I’ll stay as well.

richardhenry's avatar

I think the fact that we have people with 10,000+ lurve says it all. The system works, and it’s pretty fair and balanced.

Lurve is hard to get loads of, and that’s good. Just like real life. :D
