Does he like video games? I love my Nintendo DS, there’s a wide range of games available for it. You should be able to find a good deal around now for the DS and a few games.

hello sweety, first please say happy b-day to your son for me. and please let him know that he is in my thoughts. and for a gift how about a game system? i know that will help him.:) seen it many times. the more challanging the games the more he is going to benifit from it.:) hope he has a great one.:)

Maybe something to get him outside and not on the tv?

I had a trampoline growing up. I know that there are a lot of safety concerns, but I’d jump on the thing for like 5 hours a day when the weather was nice.

the reason that i said videos is for the reason i know her son. but something outside would be great too. but he needs something to keep his mind active.

I know this is kinda unrealistic, but when I was 13 my grandpa gave me an old clunker car (this was in the ‘70’s in Tennessee…things was a bit different down thar..) and then he and I tore that thing apart and put it back together again many times. We did get it to run and I did drive it a bit but it was, as I said, a clunker.

Now, back then, giving a girl a car to futz around with was unheard of. All of the boys had tractors and cars and trucks to monkey with, so I would say giving your son some sort of erector set or model or something to build and and take apart. gosh, I remember there was a thing called “This Incredible Engine” and it was a scaled down car motor that you could tear apart and put back together. So very cool.

I sure hope you can find something like this that you can work on together or he can work on alone. I will never forget the times grandpa and I had with that (as granny would say) damn car.

This is an important age. An official “Teenager.” In addition to any “fun” gifts that I gave my kids for these pivotal birthdays, I also gave them a book that was important to me at that age, that helped form my values and thinking. Depending on the child and depending on your values, that may change. One daughter got Orwell’s Animal Farm, and believe it or not, one daughter (that joined the Civil Air Patrol) got Machiavelli’s The Prince.” I have given them religious books with great meaning to me as well.
Yes, in this day and age a Wii or an XBOX might be in order, but a book that helps them understand you and your values could be a great addition that will last a life time. (Or maybe even for generations to come.)

I would say a book, but you really shouldn’t need an excuse to buy a kid a book. How about a Nerf gun?

Last year my 13 year old son asked for a Rip-Stick and an RC car. Both have gotten a lot of use! Oh, and i-tunes gift cards.
