If I can give sound, factual knowledge that makes a person’s life easier, that’s great. If I can cause someone to rethink a previous stance, or to reevaluate a held belief, that’s even better. A great way, the best IMO to stretch your brain, and develop perspectives, and to become a wise owl, is to challenge your beliefs. I do it all the time. Comments I’ve read here make me challenge my beliefs, and some have caused me to rethink an issue and draw a new conclusion. Comments have also caused me to hold tight to a belief I have. Some comments challenge my will to not get angry or emotional in my responses. I feel great sharing and discussing knowledge. I want others to feel the same :)

To give & take information and opinions; learn a little something new; read differing accounts and perspectives; laugh a little; and give & receive some lurve.

I may sound like Sara Palin here, sorry in advance, but I like hearing opinions “unfiltered by the media.”
I also like that it is a place to share ideas where I don’t feel like the anti Christ for holding liberal views.
Mostly, If I’m honest with myself, I like it when my opinion is affirmed by others, and I feel like I am being heard. It’s a little self centered maybe, and that’s a side of me I try to hide. Feeling like maybe my opinion matters feels good.

Honestly, I’m terrible with technology and I don’t know how to use a search engine to it’s full effectiveness. This way, when I ask a question, real people are answering and I don’t have to phrase it in the simplest way for a computer to understand what I want.

On the other side of the coin, I love the odd questions people ask that spark wonderful conversations and thoughts. Plus, fluther is so welcoming so I you don’t have to be an established member of the community to be able to ask questions.

Interesting idea… I don’t really see myself using it though. I would like to see a better way to filter questions – recommended questions aren’t working out so great yet, but there’s no real other way to filter other than tags…

i want to get different opinions from different people to diversify my thoughts. quite often i get funny answers but interesting.

I want answers to questions that are really hard to answer through google. My first fluther query was “Steven Dunn is my favorite poet, who else should I be reading.” This is by nature subjective, and there’s no really good way to get there by search engine.

With apologizes to the Tubes:

What do you want from “Fluther”
To kidnap an heiress
Or threaten her with a knife
What do you want from life
To get cable TV
And watch it every night

There you sit
A lump in your chair
Where do you sleep
And what do you wear
When you’re sleeping

What do you want from life
An Indian Guru
To show you the inner light
What do you want from life
A meaningless love affair
With a girl that you met tonight

How can you tell when you’re doin’ alright
Does your bank account swell
While you’re dreaming at night
How do know when you’re really in love
Do violins play when you’re touching the one
That you’re loving

What do you want from life
Someone to love
And somebody that you can trust
What do you want from life
To try and be happy
While you do the nasty things
You must

Well, you can’t have that, but if you’re an American citizen you are entitled to:
A heated kidney shaped pool,

There’s nothing I really want out of Fluther (except that GA ego stroke, maybe) but I enjoy the discussions, both serious and silly. It stimulates my brain.

Oh, aug, what a wonderful answer! I hope I can one day answer a question as well as that!

hehe, sorry, I had too.

Ask not what fluther can do for you. Ask what you can do for fluther!
or something like that

Fluther is so bawlin because sometimes Google doesn’t give you the down-to-earth straight up answer you’re looking for. Plus the discussions are hilarious!
