Custom holiday photo cards that don't look stupid?

Asked by zeldaah (26points) November 20th, 2008

Hi – I want to make some cool custom holiday cards, but this year I seriously don’t have time to embark on a huge arts-n-crafts project. So, I decided to go the online make-your-own photo card option, but all the cards out there are hideous! Any ideas for cool websites? Modern aesthetic without being too West-Elmy? Perhaps appropriate for an interfaith family to send out? Thanks!

You can go right into photo-shop or other similar programs and make your own. Drop in multiple photos at differing angles & sizes, use b&W or sepia tones. For interfaith, simply use snowflakes or other seasonal drop ins. Load it up, take it to a printer and you’re done! We do it every year, takes about two hours and it’s fun.

I consider photo cards as a poor taste choice :s

+1 for moo. They’re great.

I even cringe to throw away their packaging, it’s so nice.

I just used Moo to make one of my Christmas presents.

I’m thinking of doing the same. I want to get one of those mosiac frames for the mini cards but it’s more than I’m wanting to spend. I might just do a DiY version.

I am going to go check out moo and qoop. I am not going to take these to a local printer because the only one I know of I hate, and I don’t have time to research. As for the dood who said they are generally in poor taste, I agree and am also simultaneously offended. :)

I made mini-cards for the neighbor-kid. That way her mom can use them as tags on gifts to other folks. Especially handy for birthday parties and around this time of year.

Take a picture of something that is meaningful to you—holiday objects, you and/or your family and friends. If you have photoshop skills, you can make a montage or apply effects, but that’s not necessary. If you have a design program, or even a good word processor, you can set up the image on one side and some text on the inside. Print them on Avery Laser Note Cards, 50 Cards, 5 1/2” x 4 1/4”, Staples Item No. AVE5315. They fit into Staples Invitation Envelopes, White, Staples Item No. 266767.

I use Shutterfly. Last year I made a collage card with snowflakes. People seemed to like it.

Stock photo and illustration places generally have tons of “holiday” themed work that is great, cheap, and a good place to start if you’re not into pictures of you and the kids on the front.

I like istockphoto.com, $1—$15 will get you everything you need and you can figure out any aesthetic you like.

It’s personal, custom, and shouldn’t take all day.
