What's the reason for putting a tennis ball in the dryer with a winter outerwear/parkas?

Asked by REDSOX (8points) November 20th, 2008

Seems to work with it. I’m too chicken to try it without. What’s the Einstinean logic at work here?

It fluffs up the soggy, wet down. (A sneaker will work equally well.)

think along the lines of punching your pillow to fluff it.

@Gail: be careful with sneakers as depending on the sole you could scuff up the inside of your dryer. And it is not an easy task to get rid of hundreds of black skid marks no the inside of a dryer(speaking from personal experience).

we always put the sneaker in an old pillowcase.

You people of the north have the weirdest rituals! Sealing footwear in cotton sacks, and tumbling it all together with big, fluffy seasonalware. This is some National Geographic shit up in here.

In Florida, it’s weird when you see someone with sweaters laying flat to dry.

Yea, agreed tonedef. I’ve never heard of anyone putting a tennis ball or a shoe in the dryer with their winterwear.

wait until they tell you about the bread bags on their shoes ;)

Also, everyone: if you do decide to use a sneaker—make sure it’s new. Also from experience.

@funkdaddy: Actually plastic shopping bags inside shoes and over the socks is useful in wintertime if your boots aren’t dry yet :P

@tone: isn’t it weird in Florida just see a sweater?

lol, andrew – that sounds like a pleasant night’s sleep…as long as you have a clothes pin for your nose. not that my shoes smell that bad

I’ve heard that putting a shoe in the dryer and then putting a baby seat on top will put a baby right to sleep. Perhaps one could combine childcare and laundry?

Traditional Northerner folklore prescribes a poultice of sneaker dirt to support strong humours. Leaving tennis balls atop your child’s perambulator will ward off chills. And many swear by Hang in there posters as a means to stave off night terrors.

Sorry for being so silly in here. I probably ruined what was a really useful discussion!
