What is it with cops and donuts?

Asked by El_Cadejo (34610points) November 20th, 2008

Last night i drove by dunkin donuts and there were 5 cars in the lot, I know its cliché, but theres obviously some truth to this one. Why do cops seem to favor donuts over any other food source? Why dont we see this with any other profession other than police officers?

all the banks in my area are located next to donut shops coincidence, I THINK NOT!

I see it all the time, too. I think it could simply be because local donut shops tend to stay open later – a lot of times just for police, because nowhere else does – and they also serve coffee, which I think is a bigger reason. That and they aren’t crowded, so it’s a place they can actually go to take a quiet break with each other, if they get the chance.

Lots of donut places give free coffee and donuts to cops.

I’ve literally never seen a police officer eating or associating with any donut-try in my life. I’m from CA. The police are a tad more… exemplary?

@jessturtle23: Its against 99% of department’s policy for an officer to receive any sort of gratuity due to the favoritism it implies with the “gift”.

Lots of donut places give free coffee period, if it’s a small donut shop. If it’s along the lines of Krispy Kreme they won’t.

I waited tables at many restaurants and at almost all of them cops would either get a discount or at least free sodas and coffee.

remember people cops need the latest news, rumors in the hood no better place than the local gossip shop. All community news problems are talked about at the local doughnut hole. Plus who can pass up a hot coffee and fried dough. On another note I’ve bought a cup of coffee for some cops, military, emt’s whenever I can. Pay back for their thankless jobs. If someone wants to give a cop a free doughnut so what that cop might be saving your life next or your wifes. Some of the policies on receveing free gifts is ridiculous. A cop can’t get a free doughnut but Goldman sacks gives million dollar bonuses to CEOs. What a crock of do da.

Apparently, sometimes free coffee just isn’t enough.

Gross combo anyway you look at it. I mean… Deputy or Officer, Dunkin or Dandy the thought of some civilian cop pigging out with his even heftier comrades is just gross. What’s with cops eating free anyway? They shack up at the local Denny’s here and I’m sure it has nothing to do with the… ugh… quality of the meal but, rather, some sort of monetary “go get boys, meals on us” incentive.

I didn’t read any answers….

For one, it’s probably something they don’t have to pay for. They probably get all the free donuts and coffee they want.

It’s also something that’s nice and easy to eat in the cruiser while driving around or sitting there.
