Here are some I’ve heard of:
– Waiter Rant was offered a book deal based on his blog, he’s now writing a second book.
– Hot Chicks with Douchebags created a book based on their posts. Some girls have filed a lawsuit because they’re in the book and say it caused them harm/loss of reputation.
Whooaaa lawsuit thats not healthy at all .
I am sure this is going to be fiction thus not related to any living humans or creature..
I’ve heard of bloggers who wrote books, but not blogs turned into books.
Welp, Fluther ain’t a blog… but we did it here.
Sometimes, I’ve thought of taking correspondences with various people, changing the identifying details, and making it into an epistolary novel. I’t much too lazy, of course, to ever actually do that. I suppose I could post it as a blog, first, to see if anyone was interested.
Yes, it’s possible. Here’s an example of two women who did it. The blog
And the book
There are many other examples. Mighty Girl’s blog led her to write a book on what to write about on your blog. Heather B. Anderson, who writes Dooce, has edited a book of stories about fathers that first appeared as blog entries.
All these are non-fiction. Others may know of bloggers who have had short stories, poems, photos or novels that arose out of their blogs published.
Good luck!
The guy who did the Stuff White People Like blog turned that into a book. It sold pretty well, too, from what I understand.
There was a girl on LiveJournal who wrote AWESOME writeups of movies that you could read in 15 minutes or less (Movies in 15 Minutes). She was approached by a publisher and was able to turn it into a hilarious book.
PostSecret started as a blog and has become several books. It is possibly the best example of this.
FineLines was a weekly feature at Jezebel that is being turned into a book.
Your best chance is to write a blog, keep at it, make it wildly popular, then go for the book. It can be done. It has been done. You can do it!
Belle de Jour, the secret diary of a London call girl, went from blog to book to TV show on Showtime.
Cool info folks really appreciate it ,,
I just find writings is cool and you can do at your own pace and time ,,, plus no one is bossing you around for sure.
Blogging is great for exactly that. Since you can get a free blog from Wordpress, why not give it a shot :D
On peeking at your profile I see you’re not new to the world of blogging. I blog too but I don’t think I could make my regular blog into a book. But I do like the idea of blogging as almost drafting the book at your own time and pace!
I dunno, though—somehow it seems like if your GOAL is book-writing, then just write a book, y’know? I think Waiterrant and SWPL were good blogs (I read WaiterRant for a long time) that just happened to get turned into books because the guys are good writers.
I guess what i’m saying is that blogs are platforms designed for Being A Blogger on the Internet, not platforms for getting published. Some bloggers have transcended the medium, as will always happen when you have a population, but that’s not something I think you should EXPECT, especially considerin the number of truly shitty bloggers there are out there.
I think this also depends a lot on what kind of book you want to write. Is the work chronological? Is it digestible in chunks? I guess you could publish chapters as blog posts, but that seems a lot more like writing a book then blogging, rather than vice-versa.
This girl is a writer, but due to the nature of her blog, has kept her identity a secret.
Almost anything could be the starting point of a book. Written material actually makes a pretty good starting point. It’s going to need editing, though.
Do bear in mind that correspondence remains the property of the writer, even if it’s addressed to you.
