Lol why not…. self print shirt is even better.. at least it is unique
When I read the topic I pictured someone getting a bolt of fabric for a birthday present. I suppose an actual shirt would be a step up from that.
I would love a bolt of fabric for a present :)
I think there’s nothing really wrong with giving shirts as presents, as long as your friends are OK with it. Some people like to build their wardrobe by themselves, so giving them a shirt might not be the best present. I also think the uniqueness of the shirt matters – if a friend kept giving me one of those slogan t-shirts you can get at the mall for $15 each year, I would feel a bit put off because I wouldn’t think a lot of thought went into the gift, and to me that matters. But if I was given a t-shirt you decorated yourself, even just a plain color t-shirt drawn on with Sharpie marker, I would love it very very much especially if you kept giving a custom made one each year.
I will note though that I’m a girl. Males may have a different opinion here. I know some guys who would love a shirt each year since they never go shopping for clothes.
If I quilted or something, I’d love cloth, but your friend may prefer a gift card to the fabric store. Tastes are so very personal.
However, if you do sew the shirt yourself, good on you! Not many people make things for gifts anymore, and it shows that you were willing to go that extra mile and give of your time as well.
Either way, making or buying, I’d try to find something that fits. If you buy a shirt, it’s better to go too small for a woman than too big, because you can always say, “But you look smaller than that!”. (Probably go too big for a guy, because you can always tell him he looked beefier.)
But sure. Cloth, or clothing, is a great and practical gift.
