I’m a big fan of homemade egg nog. Although, gin and tonic is pretty much a christmas tree in a glass.
This is a good question soap. I could use a new libation.
My husband’s homemade mead. Mmm mmm! He made a spiced one for the holidays a couple years ago, and it was really good.
Not as good as the rose-petal flavored one we had at our wedding, though.
I made the Martha Stewart snowflake marshmallows with Mexican cocoa that was delicious. Perhaps it could benefit from cinnamon schnapps or something…what would be good in cocoa?
@loser, I have a friend that cannot cook to save her life but she makes the best egg nog ever. Lots of whipped egg whites on the top, like a cloud.
Homemade eggnog with bourbon or brandy & dark rum.
There’s also a great gin cocktail called “Bronx River” on my blog that’s great for cold weather.
Our extended family is Irish/Norwegian/Italian/Mexican.
Ah, the swirling flavors of alcoholic holiday deliciousness! Let your imagination run wild.
I have a crown made of mistletoe.
I’ve been violated via kissing at parties many, many times.
Hot coffee, with half-and-half and Buttershots. Mmmm, yummy.
My favorite part is the smell of the Christmas tree.
chieftains, traditional Irish music, bells of Dublin.
good mix of the sacred and the profane. We yank it out of the Christmas decorations on Thanksgiving and play it regularly in the home while sitting infront of an open fire.
I like the singing (year-end holidays anyway) ! Especially with the libations, woohoo!.
The top of my list is influenced by a thanksgiving tradition at my parents’ house in LA of blender margaritas (along with food of course!).
For the summer holidays we tend to make “drinkies” which are a couple shots in a tumbler with a lot of fruit juice and ice. The combination depends on what juice is in the fridge. Something like gin takes a strong statement from something like straight lime juice. While tequila or acai will play well with plenty of options, including lemonade.
A buddy and I did not have proper margarita fixings one occassion we got together to play some darts and we invented the Newton, with 3 parts tequilla, 2 parts Mezcal, 1 part triple sec with at least six parts apple juice and a bunch of ice, rocks or ‘frozen’ blender style.
These days if darts are involved at a holiday get-together (only if a small group of course, and only adults with some wits remaining need apply) Newtons have been high on the list.
