what will be the future in audio/video compression?

just wondering if anyone is aware of new/next generation technology compared with say, mp3 or divx?

Well Adobe just added H.264 support to Flash.. That seems like a step in the right direction. Beyond that I don’t know of any truly revolutionary codecs being developed.
Uncompressed audio-bandwidth will open up for telecom and all the fibre optics in the ground will finally be used system-wide. Telcoms limit bandwidth because they can, so that’s why implmentation of many new technologies have been delayed/stunted in the US.
Just research what folks in Japan and Korea are doing-full-frame video streaming from cell phones! 10.0MP camera/video phones, and they’re doing this NOW…
