What's the best double side-by-side stroller?

Asked by Jish (35points) August 27th, 2007

I’m looking for a double stroller for my twin girls. Ideally, it should be lightweight, but not so flimsy that it’s a chore to push around, even on grass or bumpy trails. I would prefer a side-by-side stroller over a tandem stroller. Is there something out there that fits the bill?

My wife and I really liked the combi twin-sturdy, and lasted til the boys were 45 pounds apiece! Just some very minor shifting when you hit bumps or grass, but not unmanageable:

Also not the most expensive, but mid-range $

As someone who has worked in a family friendly restaurant, let me say that if you live in a city and are going to be taking your stroller into restaurants, you might consider the single-file versions as opposed to the side-by-side varieties. The side-by-side kind are so hard to get into most city store doorframes.

breedmitch makes a good point; I might add that the combi I recommended fits the OSHA requirement for accessibility at under 30” wide which is why we got it in the first place; but you would have that problem anyway in crowded space such as restaurants even with the non-side-by side tandems. Any restaurant or public establishment that adheres to health and safety codes (fire) is required to maintain 30” or more in all access ways as well as provide designated seating to accommodate wheelchair access; so you’ll have the same issues to deal with as those in wheelchairs basically. We found we had more trouble with the front to back tandems in most indoor spaces due to their limo-like lengths…

I meant 32” width the OSHA and ADA requirement.

Hi all! My wife and I are expecting twins in May and are looking and shopping for all things twins such as double stroller. breedmitch, great point about the single file stroller. I have a coworker who has twins and she absolutely bemoaned the point of not having side-by-side strollers. She said they’re hard to control and take a lot of room. Tight spots are almost impossible. Also, I work in downtown DC and often see the childcare providers taking the kids for walks and the double-wide strollers are a problem on the sidewalk. Blessings to you and family!
