Excel Help - Macros question?

Asked by johnny0313x (1860points) November 24th, 2008

So I have a file with about 18,000 rows. I have to god help me – divide this file into different files separating the file in groups of 100. So I take 100 rows past it into a new sheet and save….then over and over and over til I run out of lines. This is painful….and slow. I know there is a quicker way to do it with macros but I don’t have much experience with them. I tried to record one but it kinda pasted the first 100 and stopped. Can anyone write one for me or tell me a quick suggestion. Im at work now lol

ok I have a little experience with Excel…which edition of office are you working in?

if you create and record a macro, you can make sure the cells aren’t relative when you create the macro, which would mean, the macro will start running with the cell you have selected, not just run the macro over the same cells over and over again.

so you will have to manually select each cell every 100 cells, and run the macro with either a button you inserted, or the shortcut command key to run the macro.

that still might make things a little easier its better then selectng all 100 at a time. I am using microsoft excel 2000

It can be done using the Visual Basic Editor. I’ll see if I can figure out the code, but might have to wait until I use the reference book at work. (If your not done by then that is)
