Is putting up promotion stickers illegal? Considered littering?

Asked by Magnus (2884points) November 24th, 2008

I have a blog, it’s blowing up and I wanna help it blow up even more.
I’m also going to New York over new years and it would be awesome if i could spam all of manhattan with stickers promoting my blog without getting in trouble.

Without getting in trouble…

Run fast… Actually as far as I know it is considered littering, but it is one of those laws that if you went over board and stuck stickers on the backs of cops, then people would care. Put them in public areas like lamp post, telephone polls (do they have those in New York?) Converter boxes… ect. places there are owned by the city and you should be okay, don’t try to put one on Walmarts door, or they will hunt you down and they will shoot you in the face, or force you to work for them, both, painful and demeaning.

But I don’t know for sure.

I guess it depends how and where you use them as to whether you’d get in trouble.

On the subject of stickers for advertising, I saw this today and thought it was pretty cool and slightly related. :)

Call a lawyer and ask them about it, or call the police dept. to find out for sure. Hope this helps.

Be sure that poster has a large, really cool and unique graphic on it. People often don’t have time to read posters, but they remember images. If the image triggers a “viral” spread, you will not be asking the question, “But how do they know where to find my blog?”.
