Huh, that’s interesting.
I like it.
They realized that vimeo is so much better, so they’re trying to copy them.
It’s awesome! I did notice it.
It’s been doing it on and off the last week. I’ve only seen one video that took up all the player window though. Vimeo’s player seems to dynamically change in size depending on the source file. It doesn’t seem like the youtube player will do that. Plus youtube’s compression sucks. Their “high quality” is joke compared to Vimeo, and even more so to divx/stage6. May you rest in peace, stage6.com, but they were by far the best web streaming out there. Actually go check it out, they still have demo video up.
I only like youtube because of the community and the availability of videos. I am simply addicted (3,984 videos watched).
I’m not sure why but this guy I subscribe to made that a point in a recent video, from his incessant rambling I pretty much heard that it just looks better and that they’ve been tinkering with it for a while.
I like it as well.
Widescreen!!!
What’s next? Will we be putting on our 3-D glasses?
Yep. It rocks.
Youtube used to display all vids in 4:3 aspect ratio (standard), while they’re now in 16:9 (widescreen).
Most people posting videos on Youtube add black bars if their vid is in widescreen to make it standard size- Youtube used to distort videos from other aspect ratios. However, at one point Youtube started “squeezing” widescreen vids to make them fit nicely into the 4:3 frame, so video peeps were able to upload widescreen, and Youtube would automatically fix aspect ratio problems.
Basically, vids that were “fixed” by the user don’t appear to fit the new widescreen format nicely. This includes many music videos, because pros didn’t want to take the chance that their vid might display improperly in standard size.
However, if you’re like me, and you’d uploaded videos in widescreen, allowing Youtube to work its magic to make your video look good, then your vids will fill the entire frame. Here’s an example of a vid that was upped as 16:9 before the transition, that now displays beautifully!
Yeah. That was all part of the YouTube redesign. I think YouTube has made things really better with the minimalist design and additional features nowadays like video responses on comments. It’s really impressive looking at how the redesign started and how it finally shaped into a great and improved experience for users.
