Why does my Mac decide to hang when I start winning in Chess?

Asked by Perchik (4997points) November 25th, 2008

I’ve been playing Chess for awhile on my MacBook Pro, always to the same effect. When I put the computer in check, it stops moving (when it’s a clear check, not checkmate.) I can’t tell if it’s thinking or what… but I let it sit for an hour, she never moved. In every game I’ve played, if I’m closing in on checkmate, and it becomes obvious, she stops moving again… Any idea why my computer feels the need to quit whenever I’m going to win? haha

I guess this begs the question “Has anyone ever beaten Chess on a Mac?”

Talk about a sore loser.

Maybe an (annoying) easter egg?

are you sure it’s not a checkmate or stalemate? that’s the only reason i can think of the computer wouldn’t move

Yeah. I did a move early on where I put my queen right next to his king (the move was to take his queen and sacrifice mine.) There was no reason he could not take my queen with his king, but he did not… he just didn’t move.
