Can I delete all the windows software and whatnot that came on my portable external hard drive?

Asked by arcoarena (692points) November 28th, 2008

I have a WD 500gb passport and there’s some stuff on there I was about to just delete but i figured i would check first?

it’s windows software anyway and i’m running a mac although i do occasionally plug it into my old pc.

Yes. All that stuff is just proprietary junk. SOme of it is of okay intention, but if you know what you are doing with you computer, you don’t need any of it, especially with a mac machine.

I reformatted mine the minute I took it out of the box. Most of it is just silly stuff for people who probably shouldn’t have bought an external drive.

Yes…and do. Most of the stuff they give you is crap anyhow. The only exception I have seen is the Western Digital backup and synch software which comes with their newer externals. It’s pretty hot!
