General Question

Need help from other www.stumbleupon.com users.

Asked by Snoopy (5803points) November 29th, 2008

I admit it. I have spent too much time squirreling away websites to look at later….

How do I delete websites from my favorites that I no longer want?

How do I organize the sites better?

I have checked FAQs, etc. No help there…

You mean the sites that are bookmarked? That you said you liked? I usually just go in the bookmarked Stumble folder and delete them that way. And what do you mean by organizing?

As for that picture… That is me, on SEVERAL, if not, dozens of occasions.

@chelsea What do you mean the “bookmarked stumble folder”? Does that mean your favorites? I can’t figure out how to delete them there…?

Organizing…..as in I would like to put all similar items together. If I go to the tags I might have stuff (to me) that is related under “parenting”, “kids” and “for-kids” categories. I don’t have to have to troll through all three areas looking for one site.

Yeah, up in your favorites.. (for me its Bookmarks) there should be a stumbleupon folder full of other folders with sites in them, normally what I do is just go into there.. hover over something i no longer want, right click, and delete.

@chelsea Favorites on IE…..?

Or favorites on the stumbleupon toolbar?

I don’t see a way to delete in either area…?

Hey Snoopy, I just write a review for everything I want to find later. That way I can quickly find it in my millions of thumbs ups.

you would have thought I was a squirrel hiding nuts the way I saved these sites yesterday! LOL

Favorites in IE. Just right click whatever you wanna delete in there and delete it.

Snoopy's avatar

Hmmm. They aren’t there. Rats!

I know what she’s saying. I have that same version of the toolbar that she does. If you’ve got a different version, it might not work exactly like she’s specifying.

Which “she” are you referring to bodyhead? Which toolbar do I need? Could you paste a link?

This is really bugging me :(

Nevermind, I’m being stupid. Those are my delious bookmarks! Doh.

That could be another solution for you though. Sometimes when I really like a stumble and I know for sure I want to go back to it later, I’ll bookmark it on delicious.

cripes, bodyhead. I don’t have delicious. I can only deal w/ one new thing at a time!

You are trying to give me a panic attack, aren’t you? LOL

Delicious is actually great. It’s a bookmarking service that you can use from anywhere. You can add keywords to your bookmarks (easily) and sort and search through your own bookmarks. It’s not a full toolbar, it’s only three buttons and it works great.

You should check it out. There’s no penalty if you want to uninstall it. It’s completely free.

Is delicious that different from the IE favorites? I am pretty happy w/ how I have that organized….

Maybe I should just save the stuff I find on stumble there…

….and just use stumble to stumble.

bodyhead's avatar

Hah. Yea it is like IE favorites but you can access it from other computers, retain your favorites if your computer crashes and import your IE favorites automatically.

O.M.G. I would really have a panic attack if I lost all of my favorites. You should see this thing. Folders and subfolders. Maybe I should be using delicious…..thanks for the tip:)

bodyhead's avatar

You got it. Sorry it wasn’t quite the answer you were looking for. I like to have my favorites available at work and at home so it’s a perfect solution for me.

Snoopy's avatar

StumbleUpon is really great…but even for a non-techie like me, I can see some room for improvement.

It sure doesn’t allow easy management of sites of interest…..

thanks for your help :)

That’s one thing that really bothers me about SU, too. I wish you could organize your sites better.. it’s always so hard to find what I’m looking for when I have 5000 pages I liked. And writing a review wouldn’t work, because I usually end up looking for the sites that I never thought I’d really need again. I dunno, it’s so complicated.

Snoopy's avatar

@general Glad to know I am not the only one out there…
:)
What I have settled upon is saving a site to my IE favorites and giving a thumbs up to the sites I like.

This way it is organized and you are telling SU to give you more of what you like….

Eventually, I might do as bodyhead suggests and put in to delicious….in case my IE implodes. The horror…..
