A couple of questions about frizzers.

Asked by SuperMouse (30853points) November 29th, 2008

I’m wondering how long the average frizzer stays up. It seems the mods are fabulous about getting rid of the garbage pretty quickly.

Second, can the mods tell who has flagged a question or an answer? Can they see how many times a question has been flagged?

@SM Please share w/ the uninformed among us what a frizzer is….I googled and came up empty…?

I think I remember richardhenry saying they had a sort of mod dashboard deal that contained all relevant information, I imagine the things you listed would be visible to them there.

asmonet's avatar

Try googling “frizzer + fluther”. :)

tonedef's avatar

Is there a Fluther slang thread? I had to do some research to find the origin of this one. Here you go.

Here is a link to a post that explains the term frizzer.

Concurrent posts – sorry.

Mods get emails every time someone flags something (yes, there are a TON). Also, as asmonet said above, there is a mod dashboard (relatively new feature) that shows the recent “trouble users,” how many flags they’ve each had, and whether the flags were about the users’ questions or quips.

And to answer the first question, we do our best to “take out the trash” if you will as quickly as possible so it effects as few people as possible.

GQ for referring to bad questions/quips as “frizzers”

SuperMouse's avatar

@omfg, do all the mods get emails of every flagged question and answer?

You guys really do a great job moderating.

omfgTALIjustIMDu's avatar

@Supermouse, Yes, all the mods get all the emails and if there’s even the slightest question about whether a quip/question is censor-worthy it is discussed [in length] and action is taken after we’ve reached a unanimous decision.

Why thank ye, we do our best.

asmonet's avatar

Yay! I was right! ;)

I don’t think I’ve ever been flagged.. I know I may have been overzealous a few times with the flagging though. :P

How do you know when you’ve (as a user) been moderated? Is it sent to your email? Or does something on the site alert you to those developments?

omfgTALIjustIMDu's avatar

@asmonet, When a question is censored an email is automatically sent to the user letting them know that it was censored and gives them the option to edit it and resubmit it for the moderators to approve. When a quip is censored, no email is sent automatically, but if it is a new user or someone who doesn’t know any better than to have posted the quip, we’ll generally send a PM their way explaining why it was censored and how to improve their posts for the future.

Good info, tali. Thanks. :)

Snoopy's avatar

Thank you….I feel so “in the know” now :)

BTW google said
did you mean freezer?

omfgTALIjustIMDu's avatar

Mods work in mysterious ways.

I guess I just ruined that statement

AstroChuck's avatar

Brrrr. I’m frizzing.

andrew's avatar

It’s also worth pointing out that questions aren’t technically “censored”... they’re pushed back to editing.

SuperMouse's avatar

@Andrew, it seems to me that the folks who complain about censorship are the trolls who join just to flame others and raise a ruckus. Thanks to the moderation those people never seem to stick around very long.

I’m so glad that the actual ‘frizzer’ Q was never removed!

Me too Aug, me too. It never fails to make me chuckle.

Cartman's avatar

@bagelface wherezitatthen? Under the frizzer of around the swiming pool; at the house I ask boy that was missing in the cake at 3 years I found it! Now I’ll bake the shell out of the batter. Yabettcha!

Cartman's avatar

@bagelface WHAT?!? Hold ya’ horzez…

bagelface's avatar

These new awards have turned me into some kind of lunatic. I want the cake and I want it now. Actually I do kinda want some cake,.. I only have thin mints in the frizzer though.

Cartman's avatar

Is there a de-frizzer, or more likely a de-frozzer? 12 steps to just letting go…

belakyre's avatar

What’s a frizzer? Didn’t understand the question in the link you provided.

Darwin's avatar

@belakyre – Part of the point is that no one quite understands the question except possibly the original writer of it. Nonetheless, the term “frizzer” has entered the Fluther lexicon with gusto.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

I guess you say or ask the wrong thing and your text is over, it is in the frizzer, the light is out, the eggs are cold, the jello is jiggling and the butter is getting hard.
