What's the right sequence for the Le Carré miniseries?

Asked by Jeruba (56034points) November 29th, 2008

I’ve never seen or read any of the John Le Carré stories. I have three miniseries in my NetFlix queue now: (1) Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy; (2) Smiley’s People; and (3) A Perfect Spy.

Are these in the right order, and am I missing any? Or should I just read them and forget the film version?

I never used to be a big fan of spy stories, but I really loved the Spooks series (MI-5 in the U.S. version)—plowed straight through them in Netflix, back to back—and looked around for more. Thought I’d give these classics a try. Any recommendations for me?

Thank you.

Tinker tailor and Smileys people are both part if the same cannon however “The honourable school boy” comes between them but I don’t think they made that in to a TV series.

A perfect spy is a seperate story that stands on it’s own.

@Lightly, thanks. Does it matter which comes first?

Yes. The Karla trilogy (as it is informally reffered to goes like this – Tinker Tailor, (Honourable School Boy), Smileys People. If you can be bothered you might like to read the Honourable School Boy in the middle as it is a good read however it won’t spoil it for you if you don’t. Although the stories do follow on from each other they stand up on their own as well.

As the perfect spy is a totaly seperate story you can watch that when you want but I would watch them in the order you have them in as I think Tinker Tailor and Smileys people are more enjoyable.
