What's up with Beyoncé's cyborg hand in her new video?

Can anyone explain this to me? Does it have something to do with that whole alter-ego thing on the album?
See the video here.
Yeah, I like the song. You want to fight?

Tsk, Andrew…I can’t believe you didn’t provide a link! I haven’t seen the video, but I did see a ‘red carpet’ picture of her wearing it, which is surely even weirder, right?
Ok, that is strange. It just seems…appropos of nothing. Maybe she’s trying to start a trend, ala Michael Jackson’s glove?
Didn’t you hear? She lost her hand in this epic battle between her and this evil guy who turned out to be her father. Also your music taste makes me smile Andrew.
It actually looks more like a metal glove made of plates, when she turns her hand about halfway through you can see regular skin and the parts that wrap around…
Uhhh… Zaku beat me to it.
I <3 this song, especially the clip. Awesome choreography :D
Zaku’s links don’t really answer the question for me. I still don’t understand. Though I just thought it was cause the music was kind of robot-esque and then it’s about rings on fingers on hands…
Really? You liked the choreography? I thought it was the most annoying jerky dancing I’d seen in a long time. Very spastic with very little rhythm.
She had it made because she thought it would be nice to have is all. Now, she’s wearing it everywhere.
Maybe it’s some kind of mechanical replacement for Jay-Z?
I think Beyonce has gone off the deep-end, personally. I think there needs to be a Destiny’s Child intervention.
Lol, I love the last two answers.
I am not sure why the hand, but did you see the SNL skit a few weeks ago? Timberlake and Beyonce are not really my cup of tea, but this struck me sooo funny!

Yes! I was right!
From the link Zaku provided:
“The glove was Beyonce’s concept all the way, I am told—a ‘superpower’ hand to complement the singer’s new Sasha Fierce ego.”
@asmonet: That’s what’s so great about the choreography! It’s so sharp! It’s great to see a woman take some cues from crunk/hyphee dancing. Looks like someone’s ooooold!
I love that song. As for the choreography, not everyone could make it work. But those girls did a fantastic job and it was perfect for the music beat. The roboglove though, is strange. And I hope they don’t start making cheap knockoffs as a fashion statement.
great. now “if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it” is ringing through my brain.
@PnL: I was just coming back to say:
Andrew, thanks a hell of a lot for giving me this damn earworm!
The choreo rocks. I didn’t think anyone could top Luam’s dance to this song, but the choreographer really did a great job.
I like the new hand. FIERCE!
@andrew: Old at 22. /cries
