Do we really need to use furnitire polish?

Asked by nebule (16462points) November 30th, 2008

I mean…really…. what exactly is the point…? wouldn’t just using a duster do exactly the same job without spraying chemicals into the air…??? Or at least more or less the same job?

Dusting removes the dust, and if that’s all you’re looking to do, it’s a fine alternative.

However, wood is a substance that can degrade over time, especially if it’s unvarnished. Many furniture polishes contain helpful ingredients, such as oils that help protect the wood. Without some care, wood can get old and dry out.

If you don’t like those nasty sprays, there are more environmentally-friendly alternatives for cleaning and caring for wood.

I grew up in a house where we rarely dusted. to many kids, a sick dad and a working mom. I was in Israel, at one of the excavations when I had an epiphany. I was trying to figure out how all these civilizations got buried in the first place, then it hit me, “This is why we dust!”

I never use polish, but do use Murphy’s Oil Soap (rather, my husband does) every now and again. You’ll be amazed at the difference!
