And this one doesn’t even really use it, she mostly goes outside – but whenever I clean the box she races over and watches intently, cooing and purring and acting like I’m a hero or something…do other cats do this??

One of mine does. They all get in it immediately when it’s clean, but he doesn’t even wait, he climbs in a pees right in front of me. Little pest.
@syz:
One of my cats do the same exact thing! So, yes, other cats do that too.
Yeah, my cat is totally all about it when it’s litterbox cleaning time. She also does the “use it immediately” deal. I don’t mind, I definitely feel it’s worth it if it’s appreciated that much, haha.
Better, the box, then the shoe!
No. Milo treats me like the cleaning lady (which I am). He is probably getting his professional massage while I am carting used litter to the woods.
I’ve only scooped the poop once, because the cat is my boyfriend’s and it takes a special level of love to do that, but I wasn’t even done before he (the cat) jumped in and used it. It was particularly annoying/amusing because he’d harassed me until I cleaned it first, then interrupted to use it.
He has a specific signal that means “feed me now!” only instead of running to the food, he ran to the litter box, so I figured that meant “clean my litter!”
One of our cats would wait until we cleaned out her litter tray, and then poop on the laundry room floor, right in the corner so it was hard to clean up properly. I swear she’d sit there with the biggest grin on her face while we were cleaning up her mess!!
(Sprinkle baking soda or borax on mess, cover with paper towels, spray Febreze, and if you can stand it, leave for a day or two. It will be less messy.) I stepped in a rare “accident” the other day and tracked it around my bare floors for a while until I discovered the moveable mess. I also had to scrub the bottoms of my slippers. What we do for love, I tell you.
I have to actually shut the laundry room door while I’m cleaning the box, or they’ll get in while it’s still empty. The minute I open the door, one hops in while the other waits her turn.
Cleaning the litter box seems to rate right up there in cat world with Superbowl tickets in man world. So yes, my cats find it absolutely fascinating and will line up just dying for me to finish so they can jump in and christen the clean sand as soon as I am done.
Oddly enough I usually only have one cat that shows equal interest in the weekly refilling of the food bin. Most cats appear to be outcome-oriented rather than input-oriented.
