I need ideas for an end of the semester care package...
It is the final two weeks of the semester and I want to send my daughter a care package to get her through. Mostly healthy, relatively light weight items and not too spendy…

Familiar, simple things were what I appreciated most.
Homemade rice krispie treats/cookies, etc- individually wrapped, for easy use/transport.
Bubble gum- I love bubble gum. My mom used it as packing popcorn to fill in the box.
Magazines
Lotions- smelly, girlie stuff. Bath and Body Works
Snack bars-
A tiny Christmas tree (if appropriate?)- my mom sent me one, one year…it was about 8 inches tall and came w/ a bunch of tiny ornaments to decorate it..
pics/letters-
cocoa-
new gloves, hat, mittens
warm socks-
new fleece blanket-
aww send me one.. hehehe..
WELL my college sends home some papers where you just send money and they send some premade care packages.. with soups, crackers, chips, candy, tea.. etc
i guess i really dont need one.. hehe i go homt every weekend >.< but it would be nice to recieve one.. hehe i think i might send one to myself
Great ideas! We had been talking about making rice krispie treats over thanksgiving but ran out of time – perfect! BTW – we just found a recipe for CURRY rice krispie treats!
I like the little tree idea (yes, it is appropriate!). When I was about 25 I went to kenya over christmas. my mother sent me with a little wooden folding mexican creche (had to look up how to spell that!) even though we are unitarian. It was (and still) very special to me!
@DandyDear I still have my little tree.
:)
I remember when I was in college, my parents bought me a gift cert to the local deli during finals. I could go and get hot sandwiches – eat more full meals than I otherwise would have.
End of semester means exams, and exams mean stress, low sleep, and unhealthy (if any) eating. Anything you can provide to remedy these would be greatly appreciated. Consider including a bit of bonus money with a note saying how it should be used for enjoyment, I know I would have appreciated that greatly – even though I had a job and was paying my way, it would have been great to spoil myself a bit via said money.
Being a college student myself. I would like to receive candy and coffee around this time. With all the studying I do candy and coffee are the only things keeping me running. So, basically, just send your daughter things that won’t distract her from studying and will keep her energy up. (And when she gets back for Christmas break expect her to just sleep for the entire first week.)
@overshard right on. also, some good pens and maybe a good cd or 2
Send me one too! I’m three weeks from the end of my semester.
Warm clothes (socks, scarves, etc), candy and other snack food, coffee/tea/hot chocolate, coffee mugs, makeup (I know I can’t afford it…), gift cards, popcorn, cute office supplies, bath stuff, perfumes, those little books you can buy at borders… they’re all really nice, small, light items. If your daughter has a sibling or friend that could make them a mix cd to listen to when they study, that’s always a sweet personal touch too.
if you can’t think of ideas, there is also carepackages.com. I’ve received a few of their packages, and they are always really nice, and, from what i’ve heard, they are relatively inexpensive.
Wait, wait… Stop the presses. CURRY Rice Krispie Cakes?!?
I’m sending my SO a care package for his semester exams. It will contain hot tea, homeade energy granola, almonds, a new set of highlighters, a booklight, a thermos, a menu and gift certificate to his favorite Chinese take-out place, a picture of us, and soup mixes.
I’m at an advanced boarding school for juniors and seniors, and our parents are given the option of buying “exam care packages” for us. They come filled with all kinds of snacks and drinks, and the proceeds go to the prom fund. They are delivered directly to our dorm room. It’s a really great way for parents to ensure that their kids are taken care of AND raise some extra money for prom.
@shadling21 – Do you want me to find the recipe? I think it was in a magazine my daughter brought home for Thanksgiving…
Well, sure, I guess.
It doesn’t sound good, though. I’d be scared to eat it.
It works, though?
I agree with TitsMcGhee! I want one!!
I think if you send something that you two both love, she will appreciate it! For instance my mom and I both love tea and cupcakes! So think of something you both share in common, that way not only will she love what she gets but also think about you while enjoying it!!! :)
I bought a bunch of light weight foods today. I just made 1/2 a batch of rice krispie treats with 50% Kashi Go Lean cereal. It tastes good! I will probably make the other 1/2 batch the same way! I think I will wait to make the curry treats until she comes home – she is the one who found the recipe.
I also bought her an Advent calendar and a cool 3D santa with reindeer card from Borders. She can decorate with both and then they fold flat when they are put away.
BTW – she turns 19 this Saturday – in the middle of finals and papers.
I have a Jack Johnson CD to throw in… I forgot to buy socks for her today – Dang! I bought her some really long pencils over the weekend when we went sightseeing in Albany and Boston. She seems to thrive on looking like a little kid during finals… Lastly, I secretly bought her some tacky souvenirs at the New England Aquarium on Sunday.
Ended up going to target last night so I bought socks and underwear to last a week!!
No matter what else is in the package, a pack of new clean socks and under garments will be one of the most appreciated gifts!
Homemade cookies, a generous supply for sharing, were always the best of the best. Some mothers had the knack of packing them to minimize crumbling and some didn’t, but we happily licked up all the crumbs anyway.
There are some great cookie recipes and tips hereabouts on Fluther.
@dyna – I included the socks and undies. She used the socks but brought the undies home for me to return to target! LOL!!
@Jeruba – She shared the rice krispie treats and candy, right away – nice kid!
You need to check-out www.boxobox.com. I have been sending them to my daughter for the past few years and they are great. She loves them, does not thank me enough and even promises she will come home more (yea, that is going to happen). They have different boxes for different events (more like holidays or times of year), very clever. I have not seen one in person, just the box, but my daughter says that she loves everything inside. She even still has the Pinata on her wall from the birthday care package. Let me know if this helped….
The Box O Box sounds great! I should have sent the “Feel Better” box this week! Thanks for the idea!
