If you go to http://www.macrumors.com one of the tabs has a listing of the best deals.
Apple is extremely strict about the pricing of its products, and so you’re far more likely to find bundles for the same price as the computer, but with other stuff thrown in for free.
If you just want “not used,” Apple’s refurbished gear often sells for less than new gear, and has the same warranty support.
Buying refurbished from Apple is a good way to get the price down. I bought my last MacBook refurbished and it’s been running strong. It was practically brand new when I got it, in immaculate condition. The only real downside of buying refurbished is that you usually don’t get the choice of the newest products and some of the rebate deals Apple will offer occasionally.
I think that some universities have deals on Apple for students, faculty, and other affiliates. If you or a friend/family member has a uni affiliation, you may be able to get a deal through the school.
Yes, schools do give deals. I believe you can get an even better deal if you purchase it at your school’s campus store rather than saying you’re a student and ordering off of Apple.com because they don’t require student confirmation, its just the honor system.
Yup, I meant to do it directly thru the school.
