Does anyone else not like Blu-Ray?

Asked by simone54 (7642points) December 4th, 2008

The picture is too good. It doesn’t look believable. It looks like you’re on the set of a movie. Why do people want that?

Too good?

I luuuurrrve blu-ray but I don’t think the picture being crisper makes me feel like I’m there (you’d need complete surround TV and smell-o-vision for that!), but why wouldn’t you want that? Not the smell-o-vision part. I’m quite glad TVs dont have that feature.

That’s funny.

More clarity is always better to me, but I;m not investing in Blu-Ray anytime soon. I DVR a lot of HD movies (Verizon FiOS) and and also amassing a library of HD movies on my Mac for streaming via Apple TV.

It just proves that you can’t please everyone. I’ve never heard someone complaining about clarity unless it was the lack of.

I haven’t watched anything on blu-ray, but DVDs work just fine for me, and they’re a lot cheaper than blu-ray now. Plus—I refuse to replace all of my DVDs with expensive blu-rays when I already had to do the same with my VHS collection being converted to DVD. If you don’t like it, just stick with what works for you!

You don’t have to necessarily ‘switch over’ to blu-ray.. Most players (even the cheapest ones) play both blu-ray and normal DVDs so you can keep your old library and just get new stuff in high def.

I know what you mean about the price though. It’s getting better, but most discs are still about 1/3 more expensive (in the UK, at least).

I bet you also hate how Wal-Mart is too cheap.

Does anyone that’s knocking me ever see blu-ray? Does anyone know anything?

I’ve seen Blu-ray movies and they’re pretty awesome. I also like watching 720p hi-def broadcast TV. Just when you think Dexter can’t be made better, there’s watching it so crisply that you feel right in the action!

Yeah, I don’t quite get it. I came to blue-ray like the virgin to the child, having bought a PS3 for gaming.

After popping in the demo DVD that came with it my jaw dropped.

Why would anyone want to go back from that? I mean, isn’t total immersion the final goal of entertainment system development?

That’s not the format’s fault. That the studio production’s fault if you’re not happy with with the image.

It just means that production needs to step their game up with lighting, makeup, and cinematography. Before, they were able to get away with less because of the low resolution.

I like Blu ray and after watching them going back to fuzzy DVD’s is a bit of a pain.

As for the cost, I mainly rent them just like I did with DVD’s so there isn’t any difference in price.

Hey, Pixel, I hate Wal*Mart because of their nefarious labor practices.

1080HD Blu-Ray is the only way to watch a movie! The movie 300 is awesome on Blu-Ray, as I’m sure The Dark Knight will be, I can’t wait! Too much clarity? Never!!

I watched a blu-ray movie on my ps3 for the first time the other day and I was amazed. It was so crisp! It was 300, and as gimmedat said above it was awesome. I can’t wait to try some more out.

my chemistry teacher HATES it. i’ve never tried blu-ray simply because i don’t really care to see the actors’ pores. it’s just not important enough to spend more money on.

I just watched another one, this time it was Apocalypto, which I had actually seen before on normal DVD and I could really notice the difference. It was so bright and vivid and just awesome :P

i am with you on this one….. It looks more like a filmed play… I can see all the imperfections and it is annoying. And this was on the Dark Knight!!!!!!! i much prefer a regular movie on a blu ray player so it looks up-converted… and maybe spargett is right, filming needs to get better… but for now i will stick to my up-converted normal DVD’s

zaneellis's avatar

i mean i just left the movie to come in the computer room just to see if anyone was thinking what i was thinking….
