IPhone 3G iTunes Mobile?

Asked by bmhit1991 (246points) December 4th, 2008

I have an original iPhone that can only connect to EDGE or Wi-Fi. I was wondering if the iPhone 3G could download music on the go, or if it has to connect to Wi-Fi just like the original. If you’re going to test this, make sure you’re connected to 3G. If you’re in an area that doesn’t support 3G, you’ll just connect to EDGE and it won’t help at all. Thank you!!

Nope. Only wifi. It won’t even let you preview songs over 3g.

You can, however, download podcasts.

dang bandwidth hogs :)

If you’re trying to decide if it’s worth to upgrade from an “old” iPhone to 3G, I did, and was quite a bit disappointed.

Dang. They really should let you. Especially considering they’ll let you download podcasts anywhere, even on EDGE. At least 3G should get the music store wherever. And no, this wouldn’t make me switch. I was asking out of simple curiosity. The new one doesn’t have enough features to make me want to switch and pay a higher bill. It’s got GPS, (much) better speakers, lighter, feels better, and the speed. But that’s it. I want something significantly new to make me upgrade. Like an iPhone that can handle video chat. That’d be cool. But I’m not going to upgrade yet.
