I wouldn’t know exactly what to say to that except that I have a 20 inch iMac and am extremely pleased with the display quality.
Last I heard, the 20” iMac was using 6-bit color while the 24” iMac uses 8-bit color.

The Apple site still says “millions of colors” for each model.
I recently saw a 24” iMac at a friend’s house. The screen was so brilliant I felt I needed dark glasses. How much is enough?
I have never noticed the difference honestly. My first mac was 2 years ago, a white iMac (intel) and since then I’ve had 4 top of the line Macbook Pro’s and currently purchased a 24” and I don’t see any difference.
the screens are significantly different. The 24” uses a different panel than the 20” which gives it ‘more’ colours, better colour rendition and even a slightly better viewing angle. My sister has the 24” model whereas my university uses the 20” models so this is a true statement based on my experience as well as the technical info available online.
I would recommend without hesitation only the 24”.
