What is the best way to get sap off of a car?

Asked by tonedef (3935points) December 5th, 2008

I’ve been wanting to ask you guys, but I was finally reminded by the question below. My front yard is filled with pine trees, and they drop little bits of sap all over my car’s paint and glass. Is there any way to take this all off myself, or is my only option to get it detailed by pros?

I’d try Goo-Gone. Whatever you do, you’ll have to be very careful with the paint on your car, of course.

Nail polish remover – my husband just got a lot off of my car and his.

Steel Wool. You might as well do the whole car with the steel wool while you’re at it.

don’t really do that

You should go to an auto parts store and purchase an aerosol can of “Bug and Sap Remover” and pick up a “Clay Bar” to remove the remnants from your paint while you are at it. That clay bar will not do any damage to the paint surface and will leave the clear coat very smooth after removing any dirt or sap.

the bug and sap remover also comes in a spray bottle form, it works very well but if you can’t get to an auto parts store, nail polish remover or acetone watered down a bit works too. to remove the sap remember to use a white clean cloth too and to wash the parts you used the mixture on very well.
