Not inevitable, just highly likely.

A couple months ago I would have said inevitable, but now I don’t think the world can afford a world war.

It is probable. And the shitty part is that the people who start it will be the ones that have fortified bunkers to hide in during it.

If humanity as we know it, or close thereto, is here long enough, we’ll very likely get into another big one.

I’m not expecting one. If it happens, I think I’ll go to the southern hemisphere.

Well, it’s up to humans to decide. Animals and plants won’t do it. If humans say it’s a meaningful and possible or even an inevitable thing, then it will be. If we say it isn’t, it isn’t. We’re making it up. I choose to say no.

Totally unavoidable.

It would make absolutely no sense to engage in another world war. Even if someone was a perceived winner after all was said and done, it would be a false victory and there wouldn’t be enough gain to have participated in it in the first place. Everyone loses in war in some way or another. It’s unavoidable.

I see very little chance of another World War. It’s one thing to rattle your saber and puff out your chest, but quite another to actually go to war with other powerful nations.

Look at Iraq, that was supposed to be an easy war.

Who would go to war? China and Russia against Europe and the US? Who would buy our/their products? Capitalism is a strong deterrent against large scale warfare.

Russia invaded Georgia and investors pulled billions out of the Russian stock market. What do you think would happen if they invaded Germany?

Pakistan and India have had a very tense border for years and both have nuclear weapons. They restrain themselves because of the pressure from the world community.

I completely agree with many of the sentiments being espoused: war is not an unavoidable fact of life… starting a full-fledged, global war is an absolutely last resort… the foreseeable economic environment doesn’t imply warfare, etc.

For as long as humans have inhabited the planet, we have warred with one another, often for completely ridiculous reasons. Historically, if a people does not think/act/believe in accordance with another, war happens. Not every time there is a disagreement, but eventually we seem to forget how wasteful and destructive wars are and go at each others’ throats again. Given time, it is almost bound to happen again.

Yes, and just wait, Obama will keep U.S. bases in Iraq because the only reason we’re there in the first place is to have another strategic oil reserve. If we don’t sit on that oil and control it, the rest of the Arab countries will have us by the short hairs.

I don’t know if it will be a World war or not, but there will be one – at least if history is any gauge. The U.S. goes through a pretty standard cycle of War/Recovery/Promise/Turmoil/Depression every 40 years or so, give or take a couple. Although I desperately hope for a better resolution, it may be a big war that gets us out of this recession.

After all, what really lifted the U.S. out of the Great Depression? Answer: World War II.

lol, i like how World War 1 is in the Promise decade

War is part of the national and international economic cycles. I think a world war is something that could very well occur in our near future. History has shown us that in great slumps comes frusteration and conflict, and that is often a fertile breeding ground for international conflict.

I think it’s up to us to make sure it doesn’t happen.

I have a theory:

Russia just backed out of NATO after the Georgian conflict, and would side with China, along with Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. On the other side of the field, would be America, Canada, England, France, Germany, South Africa, India and Israel.

Neutral countries will include most of Africa, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, New Zealand and Australia.

When, during the Mumbai attacks, the Indian government claimed that Pakistan was responsible for the attacks, I thought that India and Pakistan would duke it out with the nukes that they have. Then, America would get involved and then Russia and China. Israel and Iran would be battling it out, and Pakistan, Iraq and India would be backing each side according to my theory.

Either that or this

Absolutely not if I have something to say about it.
And since I do, I say NO.
