Both of my legs feel as if from knee down are hurting... as if, my bones are being nawed at, or just ringing with pain.. what's wrong with them?

Asked by The_Inquisitor (3166points) December 5th, 2008

I haven’t done anything really, i remember that when i was about 6 or 7 years old, i experienced this same kind of pain, except the pain was all over my body. Now i’m experiencing it again, but only from my knee down to foot. It happens every so often, about 2–3 times a year. Is something wrong with them? The last time it happened was when i wasn’t used to standing up for over 8 hours, my legs felt as if a numbing pain was inside my bones. (very hard to describe… >_<) That was just this summer. And now i’m experiencing it again. I was standing for 4 hours straight only. Why is this happening.. is it linked to something that could be more serious? I’m not sure if it has anything to do with standing too much, just thot it might help if i say what i was doing before experiencing the pain. I stand all the time, but this doesn’t happen too much. it’s constantly in pain.. and has been like this for about 6 hours now. I’m sure it’ll probably be gone after a day or two, but should i look into it more?

Last year, I felt this pain at a random time, I wasn’t standing too much either. It just started hurting and i remember not being able to fall asleep because of that. Like always, the pain will cease after a day or so.. but… is that good enough? I don’t want to make it such a big deal and have a doctor check it if it’s nothing much. It’s definetly not the kind of feeling after you’re legs are tired, or overworked. Just.. a ringing pain inside my legs.. =\

Shin splints, maybe?

How old are you? I get pain like that when the support in my running shoes begins to go, or if I fall asleep on the couch, and my hip gets out of alignment. Both can put strain around your knees.

Well, I’m not that old. haha. I’m 16 =|

What can I do to stop the pain?

It does not sound right at all for someone your age. But this is not where to go for medical advice If you are bothered that much, you ought to see a doctor.

Well considering your age, you could be still experiencing growing pangs. I’ve had the same pain in my legs when I walked long distances, but I’m also 15 years older than you and have thyroid issues. Try drinking more water and eating bananas. I hear the potassium in them helps. Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! :P
Now that i think about it, it could possibly just be merely shin splints.. I guess i never really knew how shin splints felt, or what to call this pain. But recently I have just started exercising again, and doing more things. it’s been a while since i have. Shin splints could be the explanation. ;)

I was thinking shin splints too but is there any way you could get checked out by a doctor, just in case?

Have you tried putting ice on your legs?

Its growing pains. The only way I know how to deal with it is by toughing it out. Try to go to bed and put a warm towel over your legs. This is completely normal at your age, and I experienced the same thing when I was 13–17. I still get micro versions of it sometimes. I guess you’ll be very tall when you’re older.

At 16, you could stiil be having growing pains. Tylenol and wet heat should give you relief. Since it’s not chronic, would also pay attention to your shoes. If it happens after exercising or running in older shoes, it may be time to replace them. The support breaks down.
