When do you find out you got into college if you applied early decision?

Asked by omfgTALIjustIMDu (9288points) December 7th, 2008

If you apply early decision to a college, and they say the decision will be made by December 15, does that mean they let you know that day or do they mail out the decision that day?

That means they will mail it out on Dec 15th. You might also find out on that day itself if the college you applied to sends confirmation emails. But most still do postage mailing I believe.

Often, one’s college counselor will get the news sub rosa. Start haunting his or her office on Dec. 14th.

gail, do you mean high school counselor?

When I had the job (in a high school) we called ourselves College Advisors. Most HS’s call them college counselors, or they used to. Tali knows who I mean.

You could also possibly call the school and inquire on that date. If you haven’t heard within 2–3 days of the 15th, I would call anyway.

In my experience, decisions are mailed out on or around Dec 15, but they come late sometimes – don’t stress if it’s late! They sometimes have delays or get more apps then they think they will, and that will slow down the decision process… Just don’t focus too much on it.

care to share? what college? I’d love to know.

@tits, I’m only worried because it’s binding and if I don’t get in I need to send the other applications, which I’d rather not wait ‘til last-minute before the deadlines to do.

@claire, I’m not sure if that was directed at me or not, but the college I’m waiting to hear from is Brandeis University.

Oh yeah, that whole binding thing kinda sucks… just make sure you have your other apps ready to go, if need be.

I know someone at Brandeis; not sure if she did early decision, but I can ask for you and see what happened there.

@tits, Yeah everything’s ready to go I just don’t wanna be “that kid” who gets their app in at the last second. And I know many many people at Brandeis, so I can ask if any of them applied early. Thank you though.

if you applied online through there own application, you can probably check you application status online. im applying to colleges also and for the schools i can i check the application status at least once a day.

@omfg: Yeah, my friend said around Dec 15th and that the envelope said “Congratulations” on the outside.

omfgTALIjustIMDu's avatar

@tits, Thanks. Yeah I told my guidance counselor that I remember my brother’s acceptance came in a large blue folder/envelope that said “congratulations” on the side. He jokingly replied to look for something that says “condolences” on the side. :P

Aw, I’m sure you’ll be just fine :) I was really stressed applying to colleges too, but everything worked out for me in the end.

omfgTALIjustIMDu's avatar

I’M GOING TO BRANDEIS!

omfgTALIjustIMDu's avatar

(Oh, and the envelope was white with “congratulations” written in blue. I guess they decided to change it up a bit).

Congratulations! Do you know what you want to study yet?

omfgTALIjustIMDu's avatar

Thanks!! Yeah, psychology and early childhood development. I chose Brandeis because they have the double major program (I’m also interested in Islamic and middle eastern studies) and a daycare center on campus I can work at.

I should actually put you in contact with a friend who is in, if not the same program (early childhood), a very similar program at Brandeis. I’ll privately comment with her info and I’m gonna let her know you’ll might be contacting her.
