Could you help me with my Christmas shopping?

Asked by AstroChuck (37666points) December 8th, 2008

I’m looking for original and clever gifts online. I’ve scoured PersonalizationMall.com and uncommongoods.com and would welcome some suggestions for other similar sites.

fredflare.com for the ‘clever’ and sundancecatalog.com for the ‘original’. I know I have more floating around in the old brain, but can’t quite catch them at the moment!

Send me the money and I’ll send you gifts.

@augustlan: fred flare is the best! :)

Personally, I like to give things from Archie McPhee – one can never have too many bobble heads or devil duckies.

Have you looked at Etsy?

chicadelplaya's avatar

Who specifically are you buying for?

My friend sent me this the other day. I like the ‘ABC Buttons.’ If you had them you could find a vintage shirt to apply them to and sew in ‘Chuck.’

I don’t know where you live, but you can enroll your friend in a taxidermy class.

@chica- You name it. Mostly adults.

GA for Darwin. @AstroChuck, looks like you’ve missed the Jesus with the loaves and fishes accessories and the glow-in-the-dark hands, not listed this year. But you can still get the remote-controlled hopping, yodeling lederhosen and the bacon strips bandages. Also don’t miss the Edgar Allen Poe action figure (weapon of choice: morbid rumination). Don’t get me that, though. I already have it.

@Peedub: I just spent way too long looking at your Core 77 link…very interesting stuff!

@Jeruba: I need that Poe action figure!

I just did a whole lot of gift shopping at Gifts.com. They give you gift ideas, and then link you to the stores that sell them. I hadn’t seen it before today, and I found it really easy to navigate, and too easy to spend money. ;)

There is a woot-off going on over at Woot.com. You never know what they might have.

ThinkGeek.com if you have nerdy friends.
Etsy.com for all sorts of things.
Philosophersguild.com for intellectually humorous stuff.
Woot.com for the Woot off!
Shirt.woot.com for some of the older t-shirts. They’re funny.

Thanks, everyone. This really helps.
Keep going.

@AC If you really want to delve into the great unknown…..
sign up for www.stumbleupon.com

This site allows you to specify interests (in your case online shoppping) and then gives you a new site that meets those categories….generally the suggestions have been well rated by other “stumblers”.

Try wishingfish.com. Lots of goodies there.

Okay, okay, I’m divulging some of my nifty little secrets here, but because it’s Astrochuck…THESE should help:

Mighty Goods
Cribcandy
Popgloss

Thanks for asking this, Astrochuck! I don’t really have any ideas to contribute – except for maybe American Science and Surplus, which has an ever changing inventory of bizarre stuff – but I love all the new sites everybody is suggesting.

Tick…shwwwwzzz…Tock <the sound of time being wasted and a bank account emptying>

chicadelplaya's avatar

Whoa! I’m not feeling so creative after reading all these responses! lol!

Sueanne_Tremendous's avatar

@McBean: I love shopping at American Science and Surplus! From test tubes to large plastic anacondas. What a place!

I bought a whole bunch of electric tennis racquet bug zappers there last year for add-on gifts (for the hard-to-buy-for guys). Good stuff.

Another one of my favorite sites is Supermarket. There are a lot of really interesting, and unique things in here.

@Empress – Thanks for the shirt woot link – I just finished my Christmas shopping. :-)
